Arlington Highlands
Sunset Meadows Park is around the corner
Arlington Highlands has recreational options for a variety of interests and seasons. Sunset Meadows Park, a mile northwest, has athletic fields used for rec sports, a popular sledding hill and trails. “It’s an enormous park, with beautiful paths, where you can bike or walk with a stroller,” says Karen Pawlak, Realtor with Baird & Warner, who works out of an office in Arlington Heights. Golfers can use the driving range that neighbors the park or play Arlington Lakes Golf Club’s 18-hole course, which is a mile west of the community off Central Road next to the 85th U.S. Army Reserve campus. Ned Brown Preserve, better known as Busse Woods, is a 2-mile trip southwest that has wooded trails, fishing opportunities and boat launches for kayaking.Downtown Arlington Heights' shops and eats
Dining is available along Arlington Heights Road, including Madurai Kitchen, a family-owned Indian spot. The throughway leads to downtown Arlington Heights, a little over a mile north, where there is a larger selection of restaurants. “Peggy Kinnane’s Irish Restaurant & Pub is one of my favorites,” Pawlak says. “They have any type of food, and people go there to watch sports games while having a drink.” Jewel-Osco, Beer on the Wall and Le Obsession Boutique are among many businesses also there. Woodfield Mall is 4 miles southwest.A variety of housing styles
Homes in Arlington Highlands are mostly split-level and ranch-styles built in the mid-to-late 20th century with quarter-acre-sized, two-car driveways and minimal landscaping. There is a small selection of Tudor-style builds and a handful of homes constructed over the last 25 years in New Traditional style. Sidewalks run alongside many neighborhood streets with new and old-growth trees planted in front yards. Prices range from $330,000 to $600,000. However, larger and more recently built homes with amenities like multiple-car garages and larger backyards exceed $700,000 and reach just over $1 million.Rolling Meadows High School's Career and Technical Education pathways
Students living south of Central Road enroll at Dryden Elementary School, while the remainder attend Westgate Elementary School. The schools combine at South Middle School. All three schools receive B-plus grades from Niche. A-plus graded Rolling Meadows High School offers Career and Technical Education curriculums exploring career options and granting college credit. Areas of study include architecture and construction, finance, health science and others.Gathering downtown for Harmony Fest's Taste of Arlington Heights
Most of the village's events take place downtown. Harmony Fest’s Taste of Arlington Heights occurs in late September at Harmony Park with food and drink from local restaurants and live music. “Even if you live farther out, you drive down and stop into the pubs,” Pawlak says. Picnic in the Park kicks off summer in early June, and Arlington Heights Farmers Market runs from May through early October every Saturday morning at the intersection of West Fremont and Vail Streets.Interstate 294's commuting opportunities
Interstate 294 is a 2-mile drive south and leads 10 miles to Chicago O’Hare International Airport and 24 miles to downtown Chicago. Arlington Heights Metra Station downtown provides public transit into Chicago, which takes about an hour. “It’s not uncommon for families to jump on the train and go into the city to see Christmas lights,” Pawlak says. Closer to home is Endeavor Health Northwest Community Hospital, which sits directly northwest of the neighborhood.Chicago O'Hare International Airport brings elevated noise levels
The community's proximity to Chicago O'Hare International Airport's runways results in elevated noise from overhead flights.
