Catino Estates is a small Arlington Heights subdivision full of tree-lined streets and a suburban feel. About a mile from the Heights' popular village center, residents are within walking distance of several amenities and institutions, including neighborhood parks, an elementary school and a community hospital. Still, even with all this activity nearby, Catino Estates maintains the feeling of a neighborhood where people can walk their dogs or chat with neighbors on the street. CAP Index gives the community a 2 out of 10 for crime, highlighting the quiet residential atmosphere of Catino Estates.
Pairie- and ranch-style homes throughout Catino Estates
On the eastern side of Catino Estates, large trees hang over the sidewalks, casting shade onto the road and open front lawns. Trees are younger on the western side but still offer a pop of color in the fall when the leaves change. Basketball hoops sit in driveways leading up to the neighborhood’s Colonials, split-levels, ranch- and Prairie-style homes. Because Catino Estates is a smaller subdivision, housing is slow to enter the market. Only four homes sold recently, at prices ranging between $600,000 and $900,000.

Downtown Arlington Heights's diverse dining scene just 1 mile away
While Catino Estates isn’t right at downtown Arlington Heights’s doorstep, the neighborhood is just a mile from the dining destination, where people can select from a range of locale and cuisines. “We have Asian to farm-to-table dining. We have several Mexican restaurants, but then we’ve got an Irish pub. There are old-school diners where you can just grab lunch or have that coffee crutch—and that’s just downtown,” says Broker Sue Duchek with Picket Fence Realty. “Downtown has a very landlocked feel. We don’t have those big box stores, but you can go elsewhere for that.” For Italian, there’s Francesca’s Tavola, which creates a classy and warm atmosphere with white tablecloths and detailing in the hardwood ceiling. Salsa 17 is one of the Mexican options, and offers plenty of outdoor seating lit by string lights hanging overhead. For the weekly grocery shop, both Walmart and Meijer are about 2 miles south of Catino Heights.

Unique traditions born to bring a sense of community and support
Much of Arlington Heights’s dining scene is marked by Arlington Alfresco season every May to September. Duchek explains that the tradition started during the COVID-19 pandemic as a way to support local businesses and social activity in the village by expanding outdoor dining. Today, it still includes transforming downtown Arlington Heights into a pedestrian zone and restaurants offering more outdoor seating areas. On Thursday nights in the summer, the Sounds of Summer Concerts bring live music to Harmony Park in downtown Arlington Heights. The village is full of fun, unique events that keep residents engaged and connected throughout Arlington Heights. “On the first Saturday of every December, there are thousands of Santas that run through the downtown area,” Duchek says.
