Scarsdale Estates
Midcentury ranch-styles and custom estates on the same street
Most of the neighborhood is built out with custom French Provincial or Prairie School-inspired homes ranging from $1.1 million to $2 million. All homes sit far from the street on freshly trimmed lawns with manicured shrubbery and long driveways. The largest homes have roundabout drives and three-car garages. While the area is largely known for its magnificent estates-style residences, there are some comparatively smaller ranch-style properties and other homes that sell for as low as $350,000. Despite the suburban lawn style, Arlington Heights Road and Central Road are the only streets with sidewalks in the neighborhood. Mature trees tower over multi-colored mailboxes and backyard patios or in-ground pools.Cultural exchange programs at Prospect High School
Dryden Elementary School is directly east of Scarsdale Estates and scores a B-plus from Niche. The school offers Children at Play afterschool care run by the Arlington Heights Park District. Kids funnel into South Middle School, which also scores a B-plus. Prospect High School gets an A-plus and offers exchange programs for language learners to Verona, Italy; Barcelona, Spain; and Sèvres, France. As of 2024, Township High School District 214 is also the only district in the U.S. to offer a high school class in iOS App Development using Swift, Apple’s program of choice.Private school options include tuition-based Christian Liberty Academy, which teaches kindergarten through 12th grade and scores a B-minus from Niche. Our Lady of the Wayside School sits next to the Catholic church of the same name and teaches kindergarten through eighth. From here, kids attend St Viator High School, which scores an A from Niche.
Dryden Park playground and Melas Park game days
The Dryden Elementary School playground, pickleball and tennis courts are on the east side of Scarsdale Estates. Melas Park is on the other side of a nearby industrial park with concessions-equipped soccer, baseball/softball, lacrosse and football fields that crowds fill on game day. Dog owners pay a fee and present proof of vaccination to enter the Melas Park Canine Commons, which includes three enclosures for unleashed play. The Recreation Park pool and playground are across U.S. Route 14 and the Metra tracks, alongside Beverly Lanes, a circa-1955 bowling alley that keeps its retro vibe sans digital scoreboards. About 3 miles southwest is Busse Woods, Arlington Heights’ vast forest preserve and lakefront with an elk habitat. “It’s got biking, fishing, and lots of picnic spots, a fun place to go enjoy the outdoors,” Clarizio says. Arlington Heights Memorial Library, 2 miles north of Scarsdale, schedules classes and story times for kids throughout the rest of the year.Gearing up for Frontier Days
Carnival rides and two stages of live performances bring Recreation Park in downtown Arlington Heights to life during Frontier Days, an annual Fourth of July celebration. While the festival is one of the premier events, there are other gatherings throughout the year, too. “They do block parties, and the city closes part of the downtown streets to do outdoor days,” Clarizio says. “It’s a very vibrant area."Downtown Arlington Heights dining and local shopping
Scarsdale is south of downtown Arlington Heights, and residents reach most amenities by heading up Arlington Heights Road. The local Mariano's grocery store is on U.S. Route 14, a few parking lots over from AMC Randhurst 12 and The Southern Kitchen, where logo-stamped pancakes are served with dusted sugar. Jewel-Osco sits across from more restaurants and brands like Loft and Bath & Body Works in downtown Arlington Heights, 2 miles from Scarsdale. Large groups snag a corner booth at Peggy Kinnane's Irish Restaurant & Pub for a brew and live music or trivia on Thursdays. The patio is open at string-lit Passero for Italian-American plates and cocktails.Getting to work in Chicago, Rosemont or the local hospital
Commuters exit onto Interstate 90 for the 26-mile trip to downtown Chicago or take Busse Road and Illinois Route 72 to Chicago O’Hare International Airport or the corporate offices in Rosemont next to it. Residents may hear distant train horns from the Arlington Heights Station, 1.5 miles away in the downtown sector. The Metra takes riders an hour and 10 minutes on the Union Pacific Northwest line to Ogilvie Transportation Center in downtown Chicago. Sirens also sound from emergency vehicles on their way to Endeavor Health Northwest Community Hospital, 1.5 miles west of the neighborhood.
