Blended community designed to be close to shops
The Village of Five Parks occupies a northwestern pocket of the city of Arvada, which itself is located about 10 miles away from Denver. “It’s a great location, as far as the Denver metro region. It’s farther out west, so you kind of avoid the mass population and congestion you’re historically seeing in the downtown Denver area,” says Arvada’s at-large city council member Lisa Feret. “It’s also strategically placed out west, so you can go into the mountains a lot faster and easier than most in the downtown Denver area.” Like the remainder of the greater Denver area, Arvada – and therefore its Village of Five Parks neighborhood – lies right along the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains. Thanks to its proximity to several highways, Arvada is also located between Denver and the college town of Boulder. The Village of Five Parks, in particular, sits just east of Colorado State Highway 93, which provides a direct connection of the University of Colorado’s home about 17 miles to the north. Only about two decades old, the village is a blended development of modern homes built in close connection to commercial real estate housing a number shops, restaurants and even services like the Five Parks Animal Hospital. Some of these commercial properties can be found on the southern end of the neighborhood south of West 86th Parkway, where there's a block of closely arranged contemporary brick and flat-roofed buildings fronted by wide sidewalks. The project was built with the intention of putting residents within walking distance of the shops, as well as recreational amenities. “And the commercial development is not only your chain grocery store or a Home Depot,” Feret says. “It’s also your traditional mom and pop shops, where you know the owner. There’s a little bit of everything.”

Active community with modern traditional homes
This award winning green community is governed by a homeowners association, which organizes a lineup of events throughout the year. Events have included holiday parties, movies, concerts and even smaller gatherings like book club meetings and adult get-togethers. The blocks in this planned community include some nearly straight streets passing between rows of closely arranged houses with modern 21st century houses. Many homes here blend Craftsman and traditional touches, but there are also some four squares, colonial revivals and ranch-style houses. Price points here can go from around $600,000 for a ranch-style house to $830,000 for a two-story traditional house. Four-bedroom townhouses can also go for $750,000.

Dine along Five Parks Drive
A few eateries can be found amid the brick commercial buildings located around Five Parks Drive. There are pies and pizza bowls at Marco’s Pizza. Brunch items like Creole Shrimp and Grits and a Donut Tower are just a few of the choices at Lot One, which also provides an outdoor patio complete with couches and a fire pit. Then, there’s Jack’s Bar & Grill, where patrons will find anything from breakfasts and coffees to lunch time sandwiches and even beers and wine. Jack’s also sells a variety of jams with flavors including apple-whiskey, bluebarb and caballero candy. One endearing point about Jack’s is that it’s staffed by employees with developmental disabilities. “I love it. It’s a welcoming environment,” Feret says. “They promote equitable employment, and they empower with people with disabilities to be part of the workforce.” For groceries, there’s a King Soopers Marketplace just outside the village off Candelas Parkway.

Parks in almost every corner of the village
Like in every other city neighborhood, village residents are not too far from outdoor recreation. Arvada’s city charter requires park space be within a 10-minute walking distance of every home. Some park occupies almost every corner of the village. On the northern end, residents can meet for tennis matches at the Whisper Creek Park. Young baseball players there can hit the field there to work on their pitch. During the summer, excited laughter fills the air as residents of all ages take advantage of the pool and splash park next to the Village of Five Parks Depot. While they might need to step outside the neighborhood, more recreational options can be found at the 3,000-acre Standley Lake Regional Park right along 86th Parkway. Amid a scenic mountain backdrop, visitors can hit the water to paddle board, kayak and fish. They can also do some wildlife viewing or even set up a tent to enjoy a night under the stars without being too far from home.

The Arvada Harvest Festival
Due to being in the city, village residents are close to the annual Arvada Harvest Festival, a major community wide event that bills itself as “one of the longest continuous festivals and parade since 1925.” The event, which now takes place at Clear Creek Park at West 58th Place between Tennyson Boulevard and Lowell Boulevard. The event, which takes place over a weekend, features a myriad of entertainment like a radio-controlled car race, a petting zoo and a movie in the park. Supplementing those smaller events are vendor booths, food trucks, live music and a beer garden.
