The township of Aston is a sprawling suburban community on the outskirts of Philadelphia. The township was so named by the original constable, Edward Carter, after his home in Oxfordshire, England. The British army traversed the township's main thoroughfare, Concord Road, as they pursued George Washington's forces after the Battle of the Brandywine. Traditional suburban tracts are a short distance from excellent schools, community and retail centers and major freeways.
Here you'll find a community of winding suburban streets under dense forests. Wide streets and sidewalks provide the perfect routes for cyclists and joggers to get around the neighborhood. Schools and parks are less than seven miles from most homes and Philadelphia is just under an hour away thanks to major freeways. The township's residential landscape is mainly comprised of single-family houses, with a small collection of manufactured homes also available. Split-level and ranch-style houses are a common sight in the neighborhood, offering open floor plans that allow residents to take advantage of living space, whether through the former's two-story floor plans or the latter's expansive single-story floor plans. Rows of Colonial-revival style houses are also common, featuring simple floor layouts and massive yards perfect for cultivating a garden or playing lawn games. Aston's home prices range from $158,000 or more for town houses to between $300,000 and $700,000 or more for mid-size and larger homes.
The Penn-Delco School District serves the township's public school students, who begin their academic careers at primary schools like Aston Elementary. The school has an overall B-minus Niche rating and teaches from kindergarten through fifth grade. Students move on to intermediate and secondary institutions such as Northley Middle and Sun Valley High School. Both schools have at least a B-minus Niche rating, and the latter school has renovated the campus and updated its curriculum with more emphasis on technology integration and technical education courses.
Nearby parks give locals a place to get out and get active. Throw the ball around with your pet or join a pickup basketball game at Poore Park, a small pocket park between Chester Creek and Mt. Road. In the center of a suburban block between Vinsmith Avenue and Stella Lane is Vinsmith Park, home to expansive green spaces, including a baseball field, basketball court and playgrounds all ringed by a paved footpath. Take a trip to the Aston Community Center and Library, with hundreds of book, CD and DVD titles available for rent and resource rooms to utilize for your organization's next meeting.
Pennell Road and Concord Road are the main thoroughfares running through Aston, lined with shopping centers and quality local restaurants to enjoy. Blair's Florist on Concord Road offers professionally designed flower arrangements and gifts for all occasions in-store and through a delivery service. Franchise stores like Giant will keep you stocked with fresh produce, pharmaceuticals and other household necessities. Enjoy Aston's first Tex-Mex establishment, The Tattooed Pig, dishing out a bevy of Mexican dishes with influences from well-known Texas flavors and those of the chef's hometown of Philadelphia.
Quiet suburban streets near schools, parks and major thoroughfares make Aston an excellent place to call home.
