An established community with outer development
At the heart of Green Crestwood, sturdy red-brick homes sit between decades-old trees on roomy green lots. The houses are half a century old, and its residents have lived in them for over half of that. “There’s a bunch of people that have lived here for 20-plus, 30-plus years,” says local Realtor Marcelo Buril, who works with Greater Athens Properties and has lived in the city for over 25 years. “Some of these houses are only on their second owner. People buy a house and stay here.” While the heart of Green Crestwood is unchanging, the community’s fringes are developing. “This whole area used to just be residential,” Buril says. “But as the city grew, newer developments started to pop up. There’s a lot of stores, restaurants and fast-food spots now.” Plus, the University of Georgia recently built a veterinary teaching hospital just outside the community, drawing new interest to the area. “Many people have come here to be close to the new UGA vet department,” Buril says. As development continues, the community retains a quiet, family-oriented feel, according to Buril. “Neighbors pay attention to what goes on, and everyone is courteous," Buril says. "It’s very neighborly.”
