Volunteering at the Astro Fain Community Garden
Adamsville-Collier Heights Library has been a local resource since the 1980s. The Adamsville Recreation Center served as a neighborhood hub from the early 1900s until the early 2000s when the C.T. Martin Natatorium and Recreation Center replaced it. A legacy mural honoring 11 prominent Black leaders, including Atlanta's current Mayor Andre Dickens, was unveiled in 2023. C.T. Martin, who played a major role in funding the recreation center, is also featured. This newer center features a 50-meter public swimming pool and hosts a midnight basketball tournament. Adamsville is also home to the Astro Fain Community Garden, first established in 2007 and revitalized in 2022. Situated at Frederick Douglass Ninth Grade STEAM Academy, the garden offers workshops throughout the year for residents. Nearby, Wilson Mill Park has tennis courts, baseball fields and a playground.Retail on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive
Local businesses line Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, which cuts through the neighborhood. Dollar Tree and Wayfield Foods are nearby in the West Ridge Shopping Center. DurtyBirds Hot Chicken dishes up Nashville hot chicken and fusion entrees like oxtail hibachi fried rice. Double Scoop Ice Cream Atlanta has a walk-up window and serves dozens of flavors.Adamsville's midcentury ranch-styles and new developments
Apartment complexes and ranch-style houses flank the main road, tucked behind retail spots and surrounded by clusters of trees. The narrow, winding streets, some lined with sidewalks, lead past homes perched on hills, with spacious backyards backing into wooded areas. In 2022, Atlanta Housing announced a new project to build 108 affordable units for seniors. Most residences here are under 2,000 square feet, featuring up to four bedrooms and two baths. The newly built homes along Hemphill School Road have traditional designs with farmhouse elements, such as board-and-batten siding and large covered front porches. Prices range from $130,000 to over $425,000.Interstate and MARTA access
Located near Interstates 20 and 285, locals in this neighborhood have quick access to major routes that connect to I-75 and I-85. For public transit, the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) bus system has stops throughout the area. A convenient 2-mile ride on the Blue line leads to Hamilton E. Holmes Station, linking to key spots like Five Points and Georgia State University. The neighborhood includes the Adamsville Regional Health Center, a small clinic, while Grady Memorial Hospital is 8 miles away. Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport is a 13-mile drive. Adamsville's CAP Index Crime Score is 6 out of 10, above the national average of 4.STEAM programs at Frederick Douglass High School
At Harper-Archer Elementary, rated a C-minus on Niche, students lay early foundations. As they move on to C-minus-rated John Lewis Invictus Academy, they enter a space that strongly focuses on STEAM pathways, where local colleges and businesses provide hands-on mentorship. The school also provides a free program called After-school All-Stars that explores sports and the arts. Frederick Douglass High School, another C-minus-rated school, has a ninth grade STEAM Academy. It offers Future Seekers, an after-school program rooted in community service, mentorship and robotics. Georgia also offers school choice, providing additional schooling options for students. Spelman and Morehouse, both historically Black colleges, are just 7 miles away.Community events at Wilson Mill Park
Wilson Mill Park brings neighbors together with events like Family Fun Day in October, where kids join kickball tournaments and families enjoy live music and food from local vendors. Less than 5 miles away, Six Flags Over Georgia is a happening spot, drawing millions of visitors each year. In September, the neighborhood holds its Love Thy Neighbor Block Party. Cascade Family Skating, where generations have celebrated birthdays and gathered for teen nights, was also featured in the movie ATL.
