It's all about the neighbor at Browns Mill Park in South Atlanta. Located next to one of five public golf courses managed by the city, Browns Mill Park is a suburb of over 2,000 people with abundant park life, a small network of community churches and a new fire station that just broke ground in late 2024. Not only do residents enjoy the outdoor recreation that comes with the local walking and biking trails, but Browns Mill Park residents also maintain their own urban food forest in the northeast that supplies the community with fruit, herbs and vegetables. "The people are very friendly," Orchard Knob resident Amir Faheed Ail Muwwakkil says. "It's a typical middle-class neighborhood."

Parks, preserves and page-turners at the local library
With the golf course taking up over an acre on the neighborhood's east side, tee times are always busy in Browns Mill Park's 18-hole golf course. Boating and kayaking are everyday activities on the South River Water Trail while walking trails and natural forestry are waiting at the Swann Preserve to the north. The local playground is at the Cleveland Avenue Branch Library, which also provides the community with its daily reading material. "You've got the library, you've got a nice 18-hole golf course," Muwwakkil says. "It's a good community."

Traditional and craftsman-style housing by South River
Most of the residential housing is focused around the western cluster between Highway 75 and Browns Mill Road, although there are a few craftsman homes north of the park between $350,000 and $485,000. Many of the traditional and ranch-style homes in the neighborhood cost anywhere between $200,000 and $415,000, although there are a few townhome rentals at Colonial Square Apartments starting at $1,125 a month. Browns Mill Park has a small shopping district at the neighborhood's southwestern corner that includes a Checkers fast food restaurant, a Mexican grocery store, a couple of convenience stores and gas stations and even a 24-hour barbershop that's been operating in Atlanta for the past two decades. Across the street are even more shopping options in Glenrose Heights, including New Style Beauty Supply, a LOS Liquidation Outlet Store, and Piggly Wiggly, which is the closest grocery store.

Educational options by Cleveland Avenue
Cleveland Avenue Elementary is a STEM-certified campus with a 10-to-1 student-teacher ratio and a C-plus rating on Niche. Long Middle serves sixth through eighth-grade students and has a C on Niche, while South Atlanta High has a C-minus and its own girls' flag football team. Pre-K and after-school programs are also available at Ms. Niecy's Learning Center, which serves students from 6 weeks to 12 years.
