East Lake
East Lake golf course estates and bungalows
The most in-demand homes in East Lake are 20th century bungalows and stately Colonial Revival and Cape Cod-style properties. “We’re lucky enough that this is one last single-family areas in the city,” says Adrianna Angelone, a broker with EAH Brokerage with over 20 years of real estate experience. “People love the neighborhood because it has really cool bungalows and you’re still able to get a good size family home.” Midcentury cottages range from $300,000 to $600,000, while homes over 2,000 square feet are $500,000 to $800,000. The area has also some newly built townhouses, which typically cost from $150,000 to $350,000. Units in gated communities are listed for $500,000 to $600,000. Custom residences around East Lake Golf Club often sell for $1 million to $1.5 million. Some of these homes neighbor Meadow Nook, an 1856 mansion that is the second-oldest house in Atlanta. East Lake has a 3 out of 10 CAP Index Crime Score, below the national average score of 4.Teeing off at East Lake Golf Club and Charlie Yates Golf Course
The East Lake Golf Club on Alston Drive Southeast is Atlanta’s oldest golf course. It has been open since 1908 and is where golf legend Bobby Jones reportedly learned to play. The private 18-hole course hosts the annual PGA TOUR Championship every summer, bringing in hundreds of visitors. A membership is required to play at East Lake, but right across 2nd Avenue, Charlie Yates Golf Course is a public alternative. Parks surround East Lake Golf Club, like East Lake Park on Alston Drive and Barker Bryant Memorial Park on McAfee Road, which is built around a tree-lined fishing pond. The 82-acre DeKalb Memorial Park on Wilkinson Drive runs has baseball fields, tennis courts and a disc golf course next to Charlie Yates. Houses of worship, including Mt. Welcome Baptist Church on Parker Avenue and Atlanta Masjid of Al-Islam on Fayetteville Road, also surround the southern side of the East Lake.Locals start the morning with My Coffee Shop
The intersection of 2nd Avenue and Hosea L. Williams Drive has restaurants, cafes and a community garden in one place. Mix’D Up Burgers serves up beef, lamb and black bean burgers, Poor Hendrix pours seasonal cocktails and PERC Coffee brews drinks with made-in-house java blends. The East Lake Community Garden is right next to Mix’D Up on 2nd Avenue. A block away, My Coffee Shop at Eastlake on Memorial Drive serves classic Southern-style breakfast, lunch and hot coffee. There is a Publix on Glenwood Avenue Southeast, next to East Lake Golf Club, and malls like Edgewood Retail District on Caroline Street are within 4 miles.Top-ranked Drew Charter School
Kids may attend Burgess-Peterson Academy, an elementary school through Atlanta Public Schools with a B-plus Niche grade, and C-plus-rated King Middle School. B-rated Maynard Holbrook Jackson High School offers sports programs that include diving, riflery and girls’ flag football. Drew Charter School, which is built against the Charles Yates Golf Course, is the most in-demand local school. The school covers preschool through high school and gets an A-minus grade from Niche for its college prep curriculum and athletics program, which include golf lessons through the local courses. East Lake is only 2 miles from Agnes Scott College, a historic women’s college that is one of the Seven Sisters of the South.
