East Lake Terrace is a pocket neighborhood surrounded by growth
Built on a former dairy farm, East Lake Terrace was a place for military housing during World War II. Many of those mid-20th-century homes remain, and they are lived in by longtime residents who have watched the neighborhood evolve since the 1950s. “It’s a pocket neighborhood surrounded by incredible growth,” says Juli St George, a Realtor with Keller Williams Realty Intown Atlanta. She highlights its proximity to downtown Decatur and East Atlanta’s restaurants and nightlife. The East Lake Terrace Neighborhood Association, formed in 2002 as a safety patrol, remains active through residents and church groups. The community has a small lake and a STEM-focused school district adjacent to one of Atlanta’s oldest golf clubs. The area offers quick access to Interstate 20 and downtown Atlanta.

Mid-20th century houses near Buena Vista Lake
Shaded by oak and maple trees, East Lake Terrace has a gently rolling landscape with lots ranging from a quarter to half an acre. The neighborhood is near Buena Vista Lake and features 1950s and '60s ranch-style and minimal traditional homes with brick and clapboard facades. Though the area has few sidewalks, there’s plenty of yard space, often enclosed by chain-link fences. “You can still find a house for $265,000, which attracts first-time homebuyers or investors looking for rental properties,” says St George. “But if you’re near the golf course, prices jump into the millions.” Many homes are being renovated, with prices ranging from $100,000 to $445,000 for those under 2,000 square feet. Larger houses and new builds sell for $615,000 to nearly $900,000. The area's CAP Index Crime Score is a 3 out of 10, lower than the national average score of 4.

Just a few miles away, downtown Decatur is home to a growing number of small businesses.

A half-mile paved trail loops around Buena Vista Lake, and there’s a fishing pier where anglers catch largemouth bass. The Scott Candler Library, part of the DeKalb County Public Library on Candler Road, hosts weekly events, from mobile clinics to wellness workshops and yoga for kids. “The East Lake Family YMCA is also a great nearby option,” St George says. The Historic East Lake Golf Club is a private members-only course on the neighborhood's northern edge and Atlanta’s oldest golf club, established in 1904. “The East Lake Golf Course is a huge draw,” she says. “Tiger Woods would come and play here at the height of his career.”
