Heritage Valley is a residential neighborhood with lower housing prices and a convenient location

Though at first glance Heritage Valley can seem like other residential suburban neighborhoods in Southwest Atlanta, its location and costs help set it apart. Sitting off Interstate 285, the community is close to major shopping areas and several parks. It also has houses available for less money than in other parts of the city. “My usual motto is the closer to the highway, the more expensive the house,” says Deborah Blue, a Realtor and associate broker with Keller Williams Realty ATL Midtown. “So if you can find affordability and still be near the ramp, that’s a plus.”

Ranch-style and traditional multilevel homes for relatively low costs

The community is predominantly ranch-style homes that often have brick exteriors and carports. These houses can range from $150,000 to $315,000. There are a few multilevel homes that can cost between $350,000 and $430,000. Most neighborhood streets do not have sidewalks, but wide roads allow walking to a neighbor’s house. Tall oaks and pines line the streets and sometimes sit in front yards, though it is more common for lots to have small trees and bushes.

Heritage Valley has lots of classic ranch-style homes from the 1950s and 1960s, known for their charm and roomy interiors.

The community is next to Interstate 285, close to its interchange with Georgia State Route 154. Six Flags Over Georgia is less than 10 miles away, while Atlanta’s West End is just over 10 miles away. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is less than 10 miles south. Though highway access is a plus, Blue says driving through the city can still be a hassle. “Traffic here during the week is the same as on the weekends now,” Blue says. “You used to go downtown on a Tuesday at 11 a.m. and think, ‘Wow, I got here quick.’ Now it’s bumper to bumper.” The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority, known as MARTA, operates public buses that make several stops along Fairburn Road Southwest. The area can get mild effects from tornadoes and hurricanes.
