Kings Forest is a suburban neighborhood in West Atlanta with access to several shopping centers

With tree-lined streets named for royals of legend like Arthur, George and James, Kings Forest lives up to its title, though there are no castles to be found. Instead, the area is appealing to the people. The suburban West Atlanta neighborhood has modest housing prices and a location near multiple shopping centers and Interstate 285. “Price point is what’s driving buyers in this area,” says Deborah Blue, a Realtor and associate broker with Keller Williams Realty ATL Midtown. “It’s about affordability and what you’re getting for your money.”

Renovated ranch-style homes with brick exteriors

The area is filled with older ranch-style homes, often with brick exteriors and either a garage or carport. “A lot of them from the 1950s and 1960s have been renovated and updated to the taste of today,” Blue says. These houses can range from $160,000 to $375,000. There are also several apartment buildings in the area that attract renters. Most neighborhood roads do not have sidewalks. Lawns often have small bushes or trees. The community has an overall CAP Index crime score of 5 out of 10, slightly higher than the national average of 4, but with elevated scores in violent crime.

Access to Interstate 285, Atlanta's West End and a theme park

Interstate 285 runs east of the neighborhood has an interchange with Georgia State Route 154 nearby. Six Flags Over Georgia is around 10 miles away, as is Atlanta’s West End. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is less than 10 miles south. The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority, known as MARTA, operates buses that make several stops along Campbellton Road Southwest at the community’s southern end. A set of railroad tracks act as the neighborhood’s western border. Though the area can feel effects from weather events like tornadoes and hurricanes, they are typically mild.

Therrell High School offers the International Baccalaureate program

Students are served by Atlanta Public Schools. They can attend Fickett Elementary School, which has a C Niche grade, as does Bunche Middle School. Therrell High School offers the International Baccalaureate program, which challenges students to develop global skills they can use for the rest of their lives. It has a C Niche score.

A renovated playground, athletic facilities and a waterfall

Several green spaces are close to the community. Ben Hill Recreation Center has facilities for sports like baseball, basketball, football and soccer. Melvin Drive Park renovated its playground in 2024. It also has a dog park and a walking trail. Less than 5 miles from the neighborhood, the 120-acre Cascade Springs Nature Preserve has a hike that leads to a small waterfall as well as trenches used by Union forces during the Civil War. The nearby Evelyn G. Lowery Library at Cascade has a computer lab and hosts events.

Close to Cascade Crossing and Greenbriar Mall

The neighborhood is around 2 miles from Cascade Crossing, a shopping center with a Publix Super Market and Gocha’s Breakfast Bar, a renowned Southern-style eatery. Nearby, Mulan Asian Cuisine has authentic entrees and hosts live music on Fridays, while Baltimore Crab and Seafood provides a taste of Maryland in an upscale setting. Less than 3 miles away is Greenbriar Mall, which has name-brand retailers and chain restaurants. The Fickett Farmers Market has local vendors selling fresh produce, drinks, clothes and other products. It is held year-round on Wednesday afternoons at Fickett Elementary School.
