Ormewood Park

Ormewood Park homes: From condos to Queen Annes
It’s impossible to pick a defining style for Ormewood Park’s homes. Development started in the 1890s, and residential construction continues today. On one block, a perfectly rectangular modernist house is sandwiched between Greek-columned homes. On another block, a Queen Anne-style house neighbors a Craftsman-inspired home. There’s also an assortment of condos and townhouses for buyers who need less space. One commonality between the houses is they tend to sit close together on sidewalk-lined streets. “It’s definitely got a residential feel even though it's right in the city,” says Dana Link, a Realtor with Atlanta Intown Real Estate Services, who’s been selling homes in the area for 20 years. “Atlanta preserves its trees, so there’s a lot of greenery no matter where you are.” Smaller homes, condos and townhomes with two or three bedrooms sell between $500,000 to $600,000, while larger residences with more square footage go for $750,000 to over $1 million. The CAP Index Crime Score for Ormewood Park is 5 out of 10, slightly higher than the national average of 4.Emmy Squared dishes Detroit-style pizza
The Atlanta BeltLine leads to the neighborhood’s cluster of restaurants on Bill Kennedy Way, including Emmy Squared Pizza, maker of rectangular, Detroit-style pies. Chico & Chang is another local favorite for Chinese and Mexican fare. The Beltline extends north to The Eastern, a concert venue north of the neighborhood. A block off the Beltline, there’s a Kroger for grocery runs.Ormewood Park Makers Festival is an anticipated event
The annual Ormewood Park Makers Festival celebrates Atlantans who make art, crafts, food and music with a street festival. Attendees can get in on the action through workshops teaching knife sharpening or wine and cheese pairing. The event takes place every May at the intersection of Delaware Avenue and Woodland Avenue.Maynard Holbrook Jackson High offers IB courses
Schools are often a draw to Ormewood Park, where many families reside, Mercer says. Three Atlanta Public Schools campuses are within 2 miles of Ormewood Park. Before fifth grade, children can attend Parkside Elementary School, which has a B-minus Niche grade. Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School earns a C-plus, while Maynard Holbrook Jackson High School gets a B. The high school presents teens with International Baccalaureate (IB) courses that allow them to pursue career-focused curricula in fields such as audio/video technology, engineering and web design. Middle schoolers can stay in the neighborhood for classes if they enroll in Atlanta Neighborhood Charter School’s Middle Campus, which earns an A-minus.Fido runs free at Ormewood Dog Yard
Whether it’s for exercise or convenience, residents can walk, jog and bike through Ormewood Park on the Atlanta BeltLine. Residents of Glenwood Park, a smaller subdivision on the north end, have their own private park with a playground and paved trails that lead to a pond. Pet owners take their dogs to play at Ormewood Dog Yard. The dog park is maintained by volunteers and donors who live in the neighborhood, rather than the city government. Five blocks west, Grant Park offers public amenities including a playground, swimming pool and baseball field. Within Grant Park is Zoo Atlanta, where visitors can view hundreds of animals, from leopards to pandas.Atlanta Beltline runs through Ormewood Park
Thanks to the BeltLine, it’s possible to walk or bike between Ormewood Park’s north and south ends. Bus stops dot major roads in the neighborhood, but there is no nearby station for the MARTA rail system. Interstate 20 is directly accessible from the neighborhood, which connects to Interstate 285. The latter roadway encircles Atlanta, making it quick to navigate around the city. Ten miles south, travelers can catch flights at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Grady Memorial Hospital offers healthcare services 3 miles to the north. “It’s a sought-after area in the city of Atlanta because it butts up to the BeltLine. It’s right in the heart of all the desirable neighborhoods,” Link says. “It’s centrally located to everything in Atlanta. You can quickly get to the airport and downtown Atlanta which includes Mercedes-Benz Stadium for sports events and concerts. We are talking about maybe a 15-minute drive.”
