Why people move to Parker

Parker blends a prime location with a mix of old and new homes, all at prices considered affordable for the Atlanta area. The neighborhood sits right along I-20 and has plenty of MARTA bus stops. Although heavy traffic is often an issue, locals don’t have to go far to find big-box grocery stores, locally owned restaurants and vibrant parks. This dynamic setting attracts both first-time homebuyers and renters, especially those seeking convenient access to Downtown Atlanta and Downtown Decatur.

It’s also lower than Atlanta’s median of about $425,000. Older homes and townhouses typically start in the mid-$100,000s and can reach the mid-$400,000s, while newer builds generally fall between the upper $400,000s and $500,000s.

The commute from Parker to Downtown Atlanta

Parker is a car-dependent community with easy access to I-20, which connects to Downtown Atlanta, about 8 miles west. While the highway offers a direct route, it often experiences heavy traffic. “If you need to get somewhere during rush hour, plan to leave an hour earlier than you think you should,” West says. MARTA also operates bus routes in the neighborhood that take passengers straight to downtown.

Why Parker attracts renters

About half of the residents in Parker are renters, and the neighborhood is home to several large apartment complexes. “A lot of people will rent here because of its location right between Atlanta and Decatur,” West says. “Obviously, driving to Downtown Decatur is quicker than getting to Downtown Atlanta, but it’s still an ideal neighborhood for roommates or couples who work in different cities.”
