Peoplestown is a walkable, residential Atlanta community
Peoplestown is a historically Black Atlanta neighborhood where people can walk to parks and restaurants. The area blends older and contemporary homes and sits a few miles from social hubs like Grant Park. Residents can easily ride a bus to the city’s commercial and cultural centers.
What houses cost in Peoplestown
The neighborhood has Craftsman-style multilevel homes, bungalows and narrow shotgun-style houses. Some were built before 1950, while others are modern. Smaller homes can range from the lower $200,000s to the mid $500,000s, and larger houses often run from the upper $400,000s to the lower $900,000s. Those prices are roughly in line with other parts of the Atlanta Metro Area. There are also apartment buildings in the neighborhood, and around 70% of residents are renters.
A close-knit neighborhood with shaded sidewalks
Peoplestown is a historically Black community with a mix of longtime homeowners and newer residents. The free-to-join Peoplestown Neighborhood Association acts as a voice for the area, and residents tend to know one another. Sidewalks line the area’s brick and concrete streets, and they’re shaded by oak trees, allowing people to easily reach parks and shops on foot. “The location is great, but there’s also this neighborhood feel where people know each other, and in an urban environment,” says Juli St George , a Realtor with Keller Williams Realty Intown Atlanta.
Public transportation and access to Hartsfield-Jackson International
MARTA’s Rapid A-line buses are coming to the neighborhood; construction on 14 new stations began in December 2025. Once complete, the line can take riders north toward the bustling Five Points area of Downtown Atlanta , with buses arriving every 10-12 minutes during peak hours. Existing bus routes 49 and 55 also make stops in the area. Residents who take the bus to Five Points can then hop on MARTA’s Red Line train, which stops at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and various downtown destinations. Drivers can alternatively reach the airport by taking the Downtown Connector for around 10 miles.
D.H. Stanton Park, Grant Park and Zoo Atlanta are nearby
The neighborhood’s D.H. Stanton Park is where people of all ages come to play. Here are some things to do at the park:• Run through the “sprayground” splash pad on a hot day• Practice your pitching and hitting on the baseball diamond• Have a picnic at the pavilion• Swing, slide and climb on playground equipment• Walk along the green space’s lighted path with your petThe park’s walking trail connects with the Beltline Southside Trail, a popular spot for jogging and cycling that snakes through several communities. “It’s a connection to the city that we’ve never had before,” St George says of the Beltline project. The neighborhood’s Four Corners Park is a smaller space with basketball courts. A few miles northeast are Zoo Atlanta, where visitors can see nearly 250 species of animals, and Grant Park, which hosts community events and has sports courts and a rec center. The city has begun construction on another unnamed green space on Custer Avenue that will also reduce flooding from stormwater. The project is expected to finish in 2027.
Students can attend Atlanta Public Schools or private school options
Students are zoned for the highly rated Atlanta Public Schools. The district has nearly 50,000 students across 100 schools and offers the International Baccalaureate, which focuses on global learning and critical thinking, as one of its signature programs. The state’s Georgia Promise Scholarship awards participating families with up to $6,500 for private school tuition and other expenses. The neighborhood is a few miles from public schools like The Ron Clark Academy and The Howard School.
Locals eat and shop in nearby Summerhill and at Terminal South
Though Peoplestown is mostly residential, it is surrounded by eateries and shops, with restaurants along Georgia Avenue in Summerhill being especially popular. Dining options there include:• Wood’s Chapel BBQ, known for its meats and creamed corn• Little Bear, which has rotating menus of international dishes• Halfway Crooks Beer, where dogs can join their owners at the rooftop bar• Southern National, an upscale eatery with a long wine list• Hero Diner, which mixes classic American food with modern flavorsOther spots include Talat Market, a Thai eatery along Ormond Street Southeast, and People’s Town Coffee Bar, a place on Milton Avenue Southeast to grab lunch or read a book. “It’s a hyperlocal place, and [inside] is what it feels like in the neighborhood,” St George says. The nearby Terminal South mall is home to shops like OffBeat Books and Nadora Sky, a jewelry store, with more retail and food spaces scheduled to open in 2026. The Beacon, a commercial center in the Grant Park area that hosts a Sunday farmers market, is a few miles east.
