"The green spaces and parks help muffle some of the airport sounds," says local Realtor Juli St. George of Keller Williams Realty Intown Atlanta. She's served Atlanta homebuyers for over ten years. "There are lots of mature trees, which also help offset some of the higher temperatures that you can get from being close to such big pavement areas." The neighborhood's housing values generally run below the greater Atlanta metro area. For buyers "looking to invest in a neighborhood with amenities close to the airport and close to highways, you can snag a deal," St George says. "There are three-bedroom, two-bath homes under $200,000."
Moreland Avenue forms the eastern border of the South River Gardens neighborhood, providing easy access to surrounding areas.

Homeowners and investors have renovated many over the years, adding square footage and a fresh splash of paint. A wave of new construction welcomed 21st-century subdivisions like The Broadlands and Reserve at South River Gardens along Jonesboro Road SE. These subdivisions feature contemporary colonials that measure over 2,000 square feet and sit on quarter-acre lots. They typically list from $300,000 to $530,000.

Atlanta Public Schools scores an overall B on Niche and serves over 50,000 students. Most homes in South River Gardens are zoned for Joseph Humphries Elementary School, which has a C on Niche, but homes south of I-285 are zoned for the C-rated Heritage Academy. Woodsy green spaces and the Doll's Head Trail
South River Gardens is a relatively green area of Atlanta that offers residents access to many outdoor recreation spaces. Southside Park features four baseball fields and a multi-use sports field. It's surrounded by trees that help shade a popular mountain bike trail. The 216-acre Lake Charlotte Nature Preserve also offers winding, undeveloped trails canopied by beech trees and shagbark hickories. Its south entrance sits inconspicuously along Forrest Park Road SE, within walking distance from many homes. South River Gardens is also close to what St. George says is one of Atlanta's most unique features, a hiking trail turned outdoor art environment. "Doll's Head Trail is this really cool thing that artists have done over the past 20 years," she says. "They added doll heads, making it a cool, artistic hiking experience." The Brown's Mill Golf Course is just west of the community, across Jonesboro Road SE. It's open to the public and sprawls across 18 holes. "You would think house values are higher right next to a golf course," St. George says, "but they're not super high."
A popular spot just outside of South River Gardens is the Doll's Head Trail, tucked away in the Constitution Lakes Park.

Antique shows at the Atlanta Expo Center and weekend trips to the Starlight Flea Market
The community's commercial infrastructure is limited to a few stores and service businesses along Jonesboro Road SE. The Atlanta Exposition Centers are home to various antique markets, streetwear markets and dog shows. According to St. George, most residents head north up Moreland Avenue SE to shop. Kroger is about 5 miles north, and Aldi is 4 miles away. There are a few convenience and food markets closer to the neighborhood. Along Moreland Avenue is the Starlight Drive-In and Flea Market, which St. George highly recommends. "I used to have this big pick-up truck we would take there, and we would have chicken wings and birthday cake in the back of the truck," St. George says. The art-deco style drive-in has served the community since 1949, and the weekend flea market is full of "unique antiquities and curious finds," St. George says. La Tapatia is a small spot off Moreland Avenue with traditional Mexican fare.
South River Gardens residents can enjoy the Starlight Drive-In, home to a popular flea market every Saturday and Sunday.
Just a few miles north of South River Gardens, Kroger has everything you need to stock up on groceries and essentials.

Hopping on I-285 to reach the airport
MARTA buses shuttle across Hutchens Road SE, but South River Gardens remains mainly car-dependent.
