Wilson Mill Meadows is an established suburb in West Atlanta, located just outside of the Interstate 285 perimeter. It's removed from the city's central buzz but still near major interstates, making it easy for residents to get around. The community is primarily residential, with nearby parks and shopping areas, and Downtown Atlanta is within reach.
There is a mix of houses in Wilson Mill Meadows, but you will mainly find ranch-style and split-level homes. With lot sizes around a quarter-acre, neighbors have a little breathing room, and yards have space for mature trees and off-street parking. Most houses were built in the 1970s and '80s, and many need renovations. Prices typically range from the low-$100,000s to the upper-$200,000s. "It's one of those micro neighborhoods that has seen some movement, but not caught up with the Atlanta price point yet," says local Realtor Juli St George of Keller Williams Realty Intown Atlanta. She's sold homes across the city for over 10 years. "You can get a fixer-upper for $150,000, which is under half of what our average Atlanta price point is." The area has a mix of renters and owners, with monthly rent often ranging from $1,500 to $2,500.
Wilson Mill Meadows is zoned for the Atlanta Public Schools system, which allows for several types of school transfers. There are general administrative transfers, transfers for children of APS employees, mid-year transfers and hardship transfers. The general administrative transfer allows students to apply to any school with available space. Students often attend Benjamin E. Mays High School, the home boundary school assigned to the area.
Interstates 285 and 20 are about 2 miles away, leading about 10 miles to Downtown Atlanta. Residents have easy access to MARTA buses, which stop throughout the neighborhood. The Hamilton E. Holmes train station is about 4 miles away, and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is about 14 miles away.
Wilson Mill Park is one of the neighborhood's few public parks, with basketball and tennis courts, a playground and baseball fields. The Herbert Greene Nature Preserve has a 2-mile trail through old-growth forest, where folks can hike. The neighborhood isn't far from Sweetwater Creek State Park, which St. George says is a major draw. "It's a really neat area," she says. "There's all kinds of stuff going on there. There are some old ruins and trails you can go to." The state park covers over 2,500 acres and has a large lake, campsites, picnic shelters, a boat ramp and a museum. It's about 12 miles from the neighborhood, but St. George says locals don't mind the drive.
A small commercial area with a gym, a beauty supply store and a pharmacy is within a mile. It's surrounded by chain restaurants like Church's Texas Chicken and Checkers. There are also a few locally owned spots, like:
Wilson Mill Meadows is close to many popular Atlanta attractions. "If you want to go to a Falcons game, it's right down the road," says Brooke Screws, a Realtor with Heritage Oaks Realty who's sold homes in the area for six years. A 10-mile drive on I-20 takes sports fans to Mercedes-Benz Stadium, where the NFL's Atlanta Falcons play. Truist Park, home of the Atlanta Braves baseball team, is a 13-mile drive north on I-285. Cascade Skating, an indoor roller rink nearby, hosts themed skate nights and offers lessons. At the C.T. Martin Natatorium, which is an eight-lane indoor pool, kids can take swimming lessons year-round. Six Flags Over Georgia, an amusement park with over 40 rides and roller coasters, is nearby.
