Asheton Lakes
Larger new traditional homes and new farmhouses
Laid out along suburban streets that snake through the subdivision, Asheton Lakes’ homes have large front yards, often landscaped with small trees and bushes. Many have fenced-in backyards, some with private pools. While new homes are being built on the west side of the neighborhood, most went up between the mid-1990s and mid-aughts. “The homes here, we’re talking larger homes,” Cotney says. “It’s four- and five-bedrooms for the majority of them.” The area’s new traditional homes go from the low $600,000s to $900,000, most sporting stone ornamentation. Meanwhile, the new construction sells between $300,000 and $500,000, mainly in farmhouse style.Highly rated Auburn schools

Drake Middle, followed by East Samford School for seventh and Auburn Junior High for eighth and ninth; each school receives an A. Just off Highway 280, Asheton Lakes is one of several northern subdivisions that are a bit removed from the city. In fact, the neighborhood is closer to The Bottle, an area named for the 64-foot-tall soda bottle that once stood at the intersection of 280 and College Street. Billed as the tallest soda bottle in the world, the structure was home to a service station and an apartment, and it was visited by dignitaries such as President Franklin Roosevelt. The landmark burned down in 1936, but Alabama maps still call the area The Bottle. Highway 280 also leads southeast to Interstate 85, one of the main corridors through east Alabama. Montgomery is 60 miles west on I-85, while Atlanta is 100 miles northeast. Most air travelers head to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, which has flights to over 200 destinations around the world.Asheton Lakes neighborhood amenities
Residents of Asheton Lakes pay around $400 annually to the Asheton Lakes Property Owners Association, which maintains the neighborhood pavilion and pool, open during the warm months for residents. The neighborhood is also home to four small lakes, one of which offers catch-and-release fishing. Tennis players can head to the courts half a mile south, while miles of trails at the Kreher Preserve and Nature Center sit 3 miles west.Shopping at Auburn Mall and dining downtown
Asheton Lakes residents head south toward Auburn for shopping, including a Publix in the Shoppes at Cary Creek, about 2 miles away. The Auburn Mall is just over 4 miles from the neighborhood, featuring Belk and Dillard’s as well as a food court. Downtown Auburn is roughly 4 miles, with plenty of restaurants and bars for a night out. Hamilton’s on Magnolia is a local favorite, with steaks and seafood in a warm interior, while Auburn Draft House has 44 taps for draft beer.Rolling Toomer’s Corner after a Tigers win
In addition to being a recreation destination, the Kreher Preserve and Nature Center hosts many events. S’more Fun With Mom is a springtime event for mothers and sons to make s’mores, and the park also offers Halloween and Christmas programs for kids. In Auburn, fall means football. The community comes together to cheer for the Auburn Tigers, with nearly 90,000 fans packing Jordan-Hare Stadium on university campus.
