The rolling hills of Camden Ridge
Auburn natives know their city as the Plains, a nod to the area's relative flatness and its role in Colonial history, when a poet referred to the young city as the "loveliest village of the plain." But northwest of downtown, the topography of Camden Ridge takes a different bend. “It’s really hilly there," says Lori Fuller, Realtor with eXp Realty Southern Branch. "People are surprised when a lot of driveways are steep.” The older suburban neighborhood is filled with trees and ample yard space, with wide streets and a mix of housing styles.
Craftsman-influenced homes and Colonial revivals
Camden Ridge’s homes sit beside rolling suburban drives, many of which lead to cul-de-sacs. Tall pine and oak trees shade well manicured front lawns, and some homes have fenced-in backyards as well. Craftsman-influenced new traditional homes populate the neighborhood, generally selling from the upper $200,000s to $500,000. Meanwhile, Colonial revival ranch homes with open gables sprinkle in, going from $500,000 to the upper $700,000s. “It’s not like some of the neighborhoods around it where it’s got all the same looking houses, or the Richland Road area where all the houses look a lot alike,” says Amy Cotney, Realtor at Roots Real Estate Investment Development. “The homes here are all a little bit different.”

High marks for Auburn schools
Part of the Auburn City Schools district, Camden Ridge sends students to Woodland Pines Elementary for kindergarten through second grade and Yarbrough Elementary for third through fifth. Woodland Pines opened in 2023 and has no grade from Niche, but Yarbrough receives an A grade. J.F. Drake Middle serves sixth grade, while seventh-graders attend East Samford School and Auburn Junior High houses eighth and ninth grade. All three received an A grade from Niche. For 10th through 12th grade, A-rated Auburn High School is ranked as the 12th-best public high school in the state by Niche. Around 4 miles south, Auburn University is located downtown and has over 30,000 students.
Pool time in Camden Ridge
The Camden Ridge HOA dues are $400 per year, and the association maintains the neighborhood pool, which is open year-round. “They have a very nice pool,” Cotney says. “It’s actually nicer than the Asheton Lakes community which is nearby.” The community also features a small playground for elementary-age kids. Meanwhile, residents can head roughly 3 miles east to the Kreher Preserve and Nature Center for its 6 miles worth of trails for walking and running. And just 2 miles south is the Auburn University Club, a private golf club that has a close relationship with it’s namesake institution. The Auburn Tigers golf teams call the club home, with access to the practice facility.
Camden Ridge is one of the only communities in Auburn that has its own neighborhood pool.

Following Donahue to downtown Auburn
Camden Ridge sits along Donahue Drive north of Auburn, alongside a few other newer subdivisions. Many residents commute into downtown Auburn to work at the university, driving straight down Donahue nearly 4 miles. The neighborhood also has easy access to Shug Jordan Parkway a couple of miles south, which takes drivers to points south and west of downtown. The main highway through East Alabama, Interstate 85 sits roughly 7 miles south from the neighborhood. Montgomery is 60 miles west, while Atlanta is 100 miles northeast. Travelers often choose to fly from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, since its status as a hub for Delta Airlines means it offers more direct flights.

Dining in downtown Auburn
While a Dollar General is across the street from the neighborhood on Farmville Road, residents of Camden Ridge have to drive a couple of miles for any other shopping or dining options. The nearest grocery store is the Walmart Neighborhood Market at the intersection of Donahue Drive and Shug Jordan Parkway 2 miles away, though a more popular Publix is a 3-mile drive. Fast food spots like Taco Bell and Wendy’s sit along the parkway. But more sit-down restaurants and bars populate downtown Auburn roughly 4 miles away. Hamilton’s on Magnolia features a wood-paneled interior and American cuisine, while the Auburn Draft House has 44 different draft beers to choose from.

College football fever each fall
The neighborhood HOA often organizes events at the community pool, including inviting food trucks for residents to enjoy. Meanwhile, the Kreher Preserve and Nature Center has plenty of programming, from mom-son s’mores night to Halloween and Christmas celebrations. But all of Auburn comes together to celebrate football season and cheer on the Auburn Tigers on fall Saturdays. Jordan-Hare Stadium holds nearly 90,000 fans on Auburn’s campus, while many more tailgate or take part in “rolling” Toomer’s Corner — covering the oaks on the edge of campus in toilet paper — following a Tigers win.
All throughout Auburn, Camden Ridge residents are reminded of their Tiger pride.
