A growing north Auburn community

About 6 miles from downtown Auburn, The Preserve started development in the early 2010s and continues to expand. Residents have plenty of amenities, including a fishing pond, walking paths and a clubhouse with a pool, plus neighborhood events, like resident happy hours. "They have great community involvement within the neighborhood," says Carter Pair, a Realtor with Real Broker. "They have food trucks come out to the clubhouse, I think, every other Friday." Six miles from Auburn University, and with great schools serving the neighborhood, The Preserve appeals to potential residents who want to be close to downtown and major roads while still enjoying the natural landscape. The Preserve has a CAP Index crime score of 1, which is lower than the national average of 4.

New builds and contemporary homes

The Preserve was built in several phases, so prospective residents can choose from a range of homes built starting in the mid-2010s. Many homes have Craftsman influences, some with stone accents. Prices range between $340,000 to $600,000, largely depending on square footage. The community continues to expand, with hundreds of homes in the works. "That's why The Preserve has been able to keep selling homes — they keep hitting that average price point for the city," Pair says.

Auburn City Schools is a big draw for parents

Kids in The Preserve start at Woodland Pines Elementary School followed by Yarbrough Elementary School for third through fifth grade. Both schools offer after-school programs where students can get help with their homework and play with friends. Sixth graders head to Drake Middle School, and seventh graders attend East Samford School. Auburn Junior High houses eighth and ninth graders, and Auburn High School is up next. Each school receives an A grade from Niche, and students at Auburn High receive iPads as part of a school initiative to assist with learning. Students can also receive help in the After-School Success Program, which includes tutoring throughout the week.

Book a tee time at Auburn University Club

The Preserve is lined with sidewalks, which residents use for daily exercise, plus natural features likes lakes and ponds within walking distance. "There's a pond that kids will fish in. It's a good-sized pond. I've seen people floating around on boats over there," Pair says. "It's all managed by the HOA, and they keep it nice and tidy around the shoreline." The community is also about 4 miles from the Auburn University Club, home to an 18-hole golf course where the Auburn Tigers play. The club is private, but it offers several memberships.
