Auburn offers country living central to the Tri-Cities
Auburn is a small town surrounded by farmland between the Tri-Cities of Midland, Saginaw and Bay City. “People choose to move here because they want to be outside of the busyness and chaos of the Tri-Cities,” says Adam Hansen, a Realtor with Modern Realty who has lived in Auburn his whole life. “You can escape from where you work and come home to that quiet country farm feel.” The town has a population of around 2,000, and even its main commercial corridor can be quiet. “It’s a two-stoplight town, so you’re going to see the same people everywhere you go,” Hansen says.
Homes in subdivisions and along country roads
In town, several residential streets with sidewalks branch out into subdivisions from Midland Road. They’re lined with many ranch-style homes on quarter-acre lots, ranging from $125,000 to $250,000. They’re blended with New Traditional houses built between the 1990s and early 2000s, which sell for around $300,000 to $510,000. Both home styles and price ranges can also be found along country roads outside the city limits, where properties are surrounded by farmland.
Local businesses along Midland Road
Locals head to Midland Road to shop and dine out. Aside from Dollar General and some fast-food restaurants, just about every business is locally owned. La Pizza has been a community favorite since 1986. “The staple of Auburn is La Pizza,” Hansen says. “If you live here, you know all about the breadsticks.” O’s Pub & Grill is another hot spot, where locals go to hang out, enjoy live music or join trivia night. Auburn Hotel & Tavern isn’t a hotel, but rather a homestyle restaurant with apartments above. Rogers Family Food is the town’s local grocery store. Several big-box retailers can be found in each of the Tri-Cities.
College credit courses at Bay City Western High School
Public school students attend Auburn Elementary School, which receives a B-minus grade from Niche. They’ll go on to Bay City Western Middle School, also graded a B-minus. The middle school facility is part of Bay City Western High School, which receives a B grade. The high school offers courses that allow students to earn credits through Delta College and Saginaw Valley State University.
Recreation at Auburn City Park and Williams Township Park
Auburn City Park is the main space for outdoor recreation. Kids enjoy playing on the playground and the two ball fields. The park also has several horseshoe pits, a sand volleyball court and a fishing pond with a walkway that loops around it. Williams Township Park is another option, featuring playgrounds, ball fields and a tree-lined walkway.
Auburn CornFest, a farmers market and stock car racing
Auburn CornFest has been an annual summer tradition since the 1970s. The event is held at Auburn City Park and features carnival rides, live music, a parade and other activities. The Auburn Farmers Market takes place at the park and runs from May through October. About 3 miles from the city limits, Tri-City Motor Speedway hosts weekly stock car races starting in May, with the season championship in September.
15 to 20 minutes to each of the Tri-Cities
U.S. 10 is the town’s main highway and the starting point to get to the Tri-Cities. It takes about 15 to 20 minutes to drive to each one. MBS International Airport is about 10 minutes away, with daily flights to Detroit and Chicago.
