City Center
A mecca for shopping and dining
The western side of Aurora’s City Center neighborhood is made up of commercial retail areas with dozens of shops and restaurants. Town Center is a shopping mall in the northwest filled with department stores like Macy’s and Dillard’s, plus many other name-brand clothing and accessory retailers. The mall is also surrounded by fast-food and chain eateries. Residents who want to support local can check out Helga’s Haus & Bier Garden, known for its authentic German cuisine and craft beer. Directly south of Town Center is a sprawling commercial space along Abilene Street. Groceries and essentials are easy to pick up at Walmart and Sam’s Club. There are also nationally known stores like Home Depot and Best Buy in the area. Grab a bite to eat at Fazoli’s, with its casual Italian fare, or Bua Traditional Thai Cuisine. “There’s a lot more than there used to be when I lived over there. With all the new shops and restaurants that have gone in, people have a lot more options for going out,” says Managing Broker Chad Hart with Hart Realty Group, who has over 15 years of experience. When it comes to entertainment options, Town Center has a few. Aurora Fieldhouse is a multi-purpose indoor sports facility that offers camps, leagues and training sessions, plus hosts various tournaments. Movie buffs can find their happy place across the street at Cinemark Century.
Single-story and multifamily housing options
City Center has a variety of housing types to suit any lifestyle. Single-family homes on individual lots are found on the cul-de-sacs circling Settler’s Park. Ranch-style homes and split levels with modern architecture are common and cost anywhere between $400,000 and $550,000. These properties range from 1,500 to 2,000 square feet and usually come with attached garages and driveways. “People looking to live in Denver are going to see that the value here on the east side is a lot better dollar-for-dollar than the homes available in the west,” Hart says. The neighborhood also has plenty of options for communal living. Condominiums and apartment complexes are scattered throughout the southern portion of the neighborhood, close to the retail areas. Housing units range from 650 to 1,000 square feet and cost $175,000 to $300,000. These properties come equipped with modern features and balconies. Residents in these condo and apartment communities often enjoy additional amenities such as tennis courts or pools alongside the multistory buildings.Traveling around Aurora’s City Center
There are multiple modes of transportation available throughout the neighborhood. Its walkability is a huge draw since many residents live close to shops and restaurants. “A lot of the new infrastructure they’ve been building has been geared toward a healthy lifestyle and healthy environment,” Hart says. Residents have access to a plethora of public transportation options in the area. Aurora Metro Center Station on Sable Boulevard is a light rail transit stop that connects commuters to the R Line. There are also several local bus lines that stop at the station along their route before traveling the neighborhood streets. Residents who prefer driving can hop on Interstate 225 and access the greater Denver metro area. In case of a medical emergency, The Medical Center of Aurora is less than 2 miles south on the other side of I-225.City parks and green spaces
When residents want a break from the city streets, there are a handful of neighborhood parks to explore. Settler’s Park is an 8-acre green space that has a playground and swing set for little ones, plus a basketball court and rentable shelter area. Take a stroll along the paved walking paths that are shaded by a collection of mature trees. On the other side of Alameda Parkway, City Center Park is a great location for an afternoon picnic. Visitors can relax by the lake, then stretch their legs along the High Line Canal Trail. Aurora Hills Golf Course is less than 3 miles north and where golf enthusiasts can go to practice their swing.Aurora public schools with quality programs
Children living in Aurora’s City Center neighborhood can start their education at Tollgate Elementary School of Expeditionary Learning with its C grade on Niche and hands-on learning approach. Then, most students will move on to Aurora Hills Middle School. Aurora Hills maintains a C-minus Niche grade and provides an English Language Development (ELD) program for multilingual students. Gateway High School also has a C-minus Niche grade while offering an International Baccalaureate program and an Air Force JROTC program.
