Norfolk Glen
Houses within the residential area
Norfolk Glen residents enjoy a peaceful community with very few interruptions, thanks to the main street’s layout of branching cul-de-sacs. Most homes within the neighborhood’s residential area are split levels and traditional two-story homes set on lots with front yards and driveways. “These homes are often priced higher because of the larger lot size,” says Realtor Jason Morris of eXp Realty, host of the Living in Aurora Colorado YouTube channel. Homebuyers can find these properties on the market for anywhere between $390,000 and $500,000. Additionally, there are several townhouses and apartment complexes in the area with brick and vinyl architecture that are both for sale and for rent. These homes can range from 950 to 1,400 square feet and cost $300,000 to $335,000. West of the High Line Canal, Skyview RV Park on Colfax Avenue offers mobile homes to those who want a lower cost of livingParks, nature centers and open spaces
When it comes to outdoor recreation, the secluded Norfolk Glen Park is nestled within the residential section of the neighborhood and offers nearby homeowners a breath of fresh air. Young kids can explore the playground while adults relax at the picnic shelters. There are a series of trails in the park, including the High Line Canal Trail, that can lead people into the Star K Ranch open lands. The 250-acre space of prairie and cotton wetlands takes up a majority of Norfolk Glen, serving as a habitat for local wildlife. Visitors can hike the trails and keep a lookout for great horned owls, prairie dogs and Swainson hawks. “We have a lot of people who bring their dogs out on leashes and go for daily walks, and others who will come and do their own nature exploration with their kids,” explains David Footle, a Natural Resource Technician for Star K Ranch. The Morris Nature Center is an educational hotspot within the open space where people can learn about the local ecosystem and enjoy rotating exhibits. Footle continues, “The center was originally converted from a ranch house, and we’ve tried to maintain that cozy, homey feel for people.” Those with a competitive side can travel three miles away to practice their baseball and soccer skills at the Aurora Sports Park. The industrial sector’s impact
The industrial sector surrounding the Norfolk Glen community is found along Smith Road and Chambers Road. There are dozens of industrial parks with commercial businesses, large manufacturing companies and distribution centers taking up residence in the area. Many members of the community are employed at these corporations. Despite the prominence of manufacturing plants, the neighborhood’s air quality is in good condition. Additionally, all factors considered, there is a larger risk of fire in the industrial sector.Shops and restaurants on Colfax Avenue
In addition to its commercial business parks, Norfolk Glen has an area along East Colfax Avenue where locals can get their essentials. Stock up on groceries from the Mi Pueblo Market or grab a bite to eat at one of several local restaurants. El Camino is a hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurant serving traditional taco and burrito dishes. There’s also Akwaba Restaurant, known for its authentic West African meals. Across Chambers Road, the Chambers Plaza shopping mall offers more retail options, from King Soopers to Colorado Tire and Service. Downtown Aurora is only three miles away for anything else a resident might need.Traveling around Arapahoe County
Norfolk Glen’s residential section has sidewalks and trails that make it a very walkable area. “The community has great access to the open space and all of its regional trails,” Footle says. However, the rest of the neighborhood requires a vehicle to get around. US Route 287, also known as East Colfax Avenue, travels east to west on the neighborhood’s southern border and has bus stops along it from a local bus line. Exits onto Interstate 70 are a mile north, which can take residents into Denver. For medical emergencies, UCHealth University of Colorado Hospital is only 2.7 miles west.Aurora public schools with great programs
Children living in Norfolk Glen can start their education at Altura Elementary School. Despite its C-minus grade on Niche, Altura offers extensive English language learning opportunities for both enrolled students and their parents. Most students will move on to attend East Middle School, which also maintains a C-minus Niche grade but makes up for it with an on-site community garden. From there, students can finish their public-school education at Hinkley High School, which has a C-plus Niche grade, notable STEM courses and Career and Technical Education programsFighting crime
The CAP Index crime grade for Norfolk Glen is 8 out of 10, which is twice as much as the U.S. national average. The neighborhood, served by the Aurora Police Department, uses Nextdoor in conjunction with its residents to report crime and communicate with each other when events occur.
