As expansive as the neighborhood is, Far Southeast of Aurora has a variety of homes that all come with large, manicured lawns. “Our homes are more affordable compared to Naperville, so you get a bigger bang for your buck,” Schmudde says. Colonial Revivals and traditional two-story homes with garages are found within a price range of $270,000 to $475,000. Craftsman homes with front gables are a bit bigger and cost around $450,000 to $600,000. Many of these houses are new construction, though some on the market are older. Other houses getting added to the neighborhood include ranch-style homes and other single stories. Families living in the Far Southeast area can send their children to schools within the Oswego Community Unit School District No. 308. Wolf’s Crossing Elementary School has an A-minus grade on Niche and offers several enrichment programs. Students can learn about agriculture and its importance with the Farm Friends group. Bednarcik Jr. High School also maintains an A-minus Niche grade and above-average test scores. From there, students can attend Oswego East High School. When residents need a breath of fresh air, Far Southeast has several community parks they can explore. Wheatland Park is one of the larger ones, with a playground area for little ones, soccer fields and a skate park. They can a stroll along the walking trail or play a game of volleyball. A recreation center is currently under construction at the park for indoor activities. At the edge of the neighborhood, Wolf’s Crossing Community Park has just as many amenities. Locals can shoot hoops on the basketball court or challenge a friend to pickleball. In the winter, there’s a sledding hill that people of all ages like to tread. Other parks in the area like Amberfields Park, Barrington Park and Harbor Springs Park all have a large grassy field for throwing a frisbee, plus a playground area and walking paths.Commercial retail throughout Aurora
Far Southeast residents have access to plenty of shopping and dining options in the area. At the intersection of US Routes 30 and 34, Ogden Hill of Montgomery is a shopping mall that has several name-brand stores. Residents can get their groceries from Sam’s Club and prescriptions from Walgreens. There’s also a Menards and JCPenney’s. In the middle of the neighborhood, there’s a commercial area along Enola Road that has several restaurants. McBride’s Pub & Grille serves traditional Irish dishes like meatloaf and ribs, while Maciano’s Pizza & Pastaria has classic Italian fare. Roughly 3.5 miles away along US Route 30 is a large commercial area that has a Meijer, Walmart Supercenter and every big-box store imaginable. Retail options include Old Navy, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Michaels and more. There are also a ton of fast-food chains like Culver’s, Jersey Mikes and Raising Cane’s. Benny’s Place across the street has breakfast skillets and savory sandwiches for lunch. With Far Southeast’s centralized location, residents have easy access to public transportation. “It’s such a money saver for the people who go downtown for work. The Metra here is super reliable, and there are several express trains that go right into Chicago’s Union Station,” Schmudde says. Aurora Metra Station is the closest stop, which is only 6.5 miles away from the neighborhood. Those who have their own vehicles can hop onto US Routes 34 and 30 to get where they need to go. Copley Memorial Hospital is at the edge of the neighborhood for emergencies.
