One of the Dell Campus' is located in the Copperfield neighborhood of Austin.
Green space and major employers in a growing Austin suburb
When Nash Phillips/Copus Company unveiled Copperfield as a planned community in 1982, developers described the neighborhood as “reminiscent of the classic story-book village.” Located about 12 miles north of the Texas State Capitol and surrounded by nature, the neighborhood has condos and Victorian-inspired homes at a lower price point than other Austin suburbs. Some of Austin’s biggest employers — including Dell, Apple and Samsung — are mere minutes away. “The location is very good,” says Kyle Odiorne, broker and owner of Owning Texas Real Estate. “It’s close to good shopping, and logistically it’s located in a good part of town for growth.”
Some homes in Copperfield take influences from Victorian architecture.
Victorian-inspired homes at a fraction of Austin prices
Mature oak trees tower over Copperfield’s gridded streets and cul-de-sacs. Many homes are inspired by Folk Victorian architecture, with patterned wood shingles, asymmetrical roof lines and turned spindles. The area also has split-level and ranch-style homes in a variety of colors. “It still has what I would say are lower-priced homes as compared to the average price in Austin,” Odiorne says, pointing to savings of more than $100,000. Most homes range from $250,000 to $500,000, although bigger homes with extra amenities like a pool can cost more than $700,000. The area also has a smattering of condos, which range from $250,000 to $325,000 for two bedrooms.
The Walnut Creek Greenbelt is easily accessible for locals living in Copperfield.
Miles of trails close to the Walnut Creek Greenbelt
Starting at Copperfield Park, nature trails abound in nearly every direction. In addition to the playground and picnic tables, locals enjoy walking under tall, shady trees along the Copperfield Nature Trail. The unpaved trail partially encircles the neighborhood and follows Walnut Creek, where hikers can see small waterfalls when the creek is flowing. Hikers who follow the trail can reach the Walnut Creek Greenbelt, a rugged area with miles of paved and unpaved paths that will eventually stretch from Govalle Park up to Balcones District Park thanks to an expansion project.
