Copperfield provides easy access to recreation and everyday errands

Copperfield is a northeast Austin neighborhood where outdoor recreation and daily life are tightly entangled. Many homes here are within walking distance of attractions like the roughly 1-mile Copperfield Nature Trail and the nearly 5-acre Copperfield Park. Walnut Creek Metropolitan Park provides even more trails and a free pool, a short drive away. Restaurants and stores along thoroughfares like Parmer Lane and Dessau Road make errands and dinner easier to manage, and neighboring Interstate 35 is a simple connection to downtown.

Copperfield has homes at lower prices than nearby areas

Established single-family homes make up the bulk of the selection in Copperfield. Many were built in the 1980s, though some date to the 1950s and others were constructed as recently as the 2010s. You’ll spot ranch-style and Craftsman-inspired homes on most blocks, accented by grassy lawns on lots between one-tenth and one-fifth of an acre. Most homes sell for prices from the lower $200,000s to the mid-$600,000s. The area also has some condos priced from the mid-$100,000s to the upper $200,000s, with HOA fees ranging from $170 to $340 per month. Copperfield’s median sale price of $300,000 is less than the median in nearby neighborhoods like Parmer (roughly $330,000), Pioneer Crossing (about $420,000) and Walnut Creek Park (almost $600,000). “It still has what I would say are lower-priced homes as compared to the average price in Austin,” says Kyle Odiorne, who’s the co-owner of Owning Texas Real Estate and has over 20 years of industry experience.

Copperfield is also close to the charter school IDEA Parmer Park, which is a tuition-free alternative for prekindergarten through 12th grade.

Parks and trails give residents easy outdoor escapes

Outdoor recreation is built into this area. Copperfield Park is the primary trailhead for the local trail system and includes a playground and pavilion for picnics. • Walnut Creek Metropolitan Park, which has multiple miles of trails, a pool open from May through September, ball fields and a basketball court
  • North Oaks Neighborhood Park, where there’s a playground and a community garden
  • Oertli Neighborhood Park, which has a shaded swingset and a pavilion

How residents get around Copperfield and the rest of Austin

Interstate 35 is an easy-to-access asset for commuters in Copperfield. You can hop on the highway in minutes for the roughly 12-mile ride to downtown Austin. Your commute is much shorter if you work in the Tech Ridge area, which is just north of the neighborhood and includes major employers such as Dell and General Motors. There are also multiple CapMetro bus stops in Copperfield to help you get around, and bike lanes are available on some of the area’s main roads. Sidewalks are also common for strolls around the block.
