Decker Lane is a budget-friendly East Austin neighborhood with lots of growth potential
East Austin's Decker Lane is a collection of apartments and homes surrounding Lake Walter E. Long, with lower housing prices that make homeownership more accessible than in Central Austin neighborhoods. "There's a lot of growth potential in that neighborhood," says Realtor Summer Carter with eXp Realty. "They're building apartments out there, and there's a lot of things popping up. It's affordable, beautiful and truly 'Keep Austin Weird' vibes. With the people who have been there a long time and the houses that have been renovated and resold, there's a little bit of everything."

Lake days at Walter E. Long Metropolitan Park and exploring Walnut Creek Hike and Bike Trail
"There's a lot of hidden trails, parks and golf courses in this area that people don't necessarily know about," Carter says. The neighborhood is home to Walter E. Long Metropolitan Park, which has a 1,200-acre lake suited for fishing, boating, jet skiing and swimming. The lake's shore has sand volleyball courts and picnic sites with grills. Three miles west, residents can find an entrance to Walnut Creek Hike and Bike Trail, which Carter considers a hidden gem of Austin trails. "There is one route where you can start from the beginning of that trail, and it will take you all the way downtown," she says. "It's a beautifully paved trail covered in trees, and if you catch it at the right time, you can see deer." Decker Lane is also home to Capital City Clays, a skeet shooting range on the neighborhood's north end.
