From farm to hot spot for Austinites
Originally a farming community named after the Gracy family dairy farm, Gracywoods exploded in growth in the 1980s during the first wave of Austin’s tech boom. Now it is a tranquil haven for Austinites looking for affordable homes close to the city. Hundred-year-old oak trees and neat sidewalks curve through the peaceful community, where residents enjoy easy access Austin, tons of shops and restaurants, and some of the best parks in the city.

Close to Walnut Creek Metropolitan Park
Walnut Creek Metropolitan Park is just north of the neighborhood and has miles of paved and unpaved trails that run alongside Walnut Creek. "It's such a large park — nearly 300 acres — and it's almost like multiple parks in one," says Katie Kennedy, marketing and communications director for the Austin Parks Foundation. "My husband and I take our dogs to the park nearly every day." Residents can meet for morning walks or bike rides on one of the many trails that link nearby neighborhoods together. Gracywoods Neighborhood Park on the northside of the neighborhood has a playground and access to Walnut Creek Metropolitan Park’s hiking and biking trails. Wildlife abounds, including on Barchetta Drive, where homeowners are often visited by the neighborhood’s beloved Guinea fowl, a group of protected birds that flocked to the neighborhood after a storm in the 1940s destroyed the Gracy Farm henhouse. “They self manage and they’re good for the environment. They’re a welcome guest,” says Francoise Luca, the Gracywoods Neighborhood Association president and resident of more than 20 years. “We also see a lot of deer and some foxes.”
