Quiet, small-town feel close to Pittsburgh
Avalon residents are getting ready to celebrate their town’s 150th birthday in 2025. Throughout that time, the little neighborhood just north of Pittsburgh has maintained its small-town charm. Original American Foursquares and stick homes sit along faded brick streets with sidewalks connecting to corner playlots and larger neighborhood parks. “Local coffee shops, grocery stores, microbreweries and more are only steps away,” Allison Gannon says. The top real estate agent with Howard Hanna and local resident Gannon adds, “It’s very centrally located with easy access to Pittsburgh – but at the same time, it’s a pretty quiet community.”
Avalon is a key destination in the Ohio River valley and is not far from Downtown Pittsburgh.
Avalon is less that seven miles from Downtown Pittsburgh making it a great place to call home.

American Foursquares and stick homes on faded brick streets
Most homes in Avalon date back to the late 1800s and early 1900s, but some boxy raised-ranch houses were added around the 1960s. Along the concrete, riddled sidewalks, American Foursquares and tall stick homes are arranged neatly on tree-covered residential blocks. Some houses only offer street parking, while others feature alleys that lead to backyard garages. The neighborhood is arranged in a densely packed grid pattern, making it easy for residents to walk to the park or visit their neighbors. Yards here are on the smaller side, with most having just enough room to let the dog out or enjoy a cup of coffee on the back patio. In Avalon, homes typically fall within the $175,000 to $225,000 range, but some of the recently updated properties cost closer to $300,000.
Avalon has classic four square homes that line the streets of the area.
