From summering location to home of Scotland’s game
Wing Point Golf and Country Club was established with its namesake 18-hole course built on Bainbridge Island’s eastern coastline in 1903. “Bainbridge, they say, is shaped like an eagle, and that’s where Wing Point got its name because of how the island juts out,” says Andrea Mann, a local broker with Windermere Real Estate West Sound, Inc.. The community began as a summering location for those working in Seattle, including Scottish immigrants who saw Wing Point’s farmland as a prime location for golf, the “National Game of Scotland.” After a remodel in the 1980s, the gently rolling fairways were reorganized, and single-family homes were added to cul-de-sacs between holes.

Wing Point’s golfing greens and waterfront park
The Wing Point Golf & Country Club’s membership options range from social and dining benefits to proprietary status, which grants access to tennis courts, the swimming pool, manicured fairways and equity in the club. Nearby park spaces include the Aaron Tot Lot, where the woods surround a playground. “We have a lot of what we call ‘road ends’’ where there’s public access to the beach, and there’s a couple of those in short driving distance of Wing Point,” Mann says. One of these access points is located on Yaquina Avenue. Hawley Cove Park is tucked between the community and Eagle Harbor. Paved sidewalks run through the neighborhood to the park’s forested path and boardwalk along the harbor’s saltwater shore, where ferries pass and the sun sets over Mount Rainier.

Although the neighborhood has no designated retail area, it is nearly a 2-mile drive to Bainbridge Island’s downtown—or Winslow—where local businesses and sidewalks line the street. Dining options vary from Emmy’s Vege House’s vegetarian and vegan dishes to Isla Bonita’s casual Mexican food. Plum is a local boutique that sells items from local artisans, including jewelry and décor. Nearby box stores include Town & Country Market and Ace Hardware.

Winslow’s art walks and farmers markets
Events, including First Friday Art Walks, are held in Winslow throughout the year. Galleries open their doors, and art is admired over wine, snacks and music. The Town Square green space at City Hall fills every Saturday from April through November for the Bainbridge Island Farmers Market. Since the market’s establishment in 1990 with only two farms represented, the event has expanded and now encompasses over 40 vendors, including artisans and food vendors.

Cul-de-sacs surrounded by Wing Point Golf Course
Single-family homes, including new traditional and Craftsman houses, dot sidewalk-lined streets around the golf course’s fairways. Mature trees surround these 1970s and 1990s properties that are priced between $1.5 million and $1.9 million. Since these homes were built on a private course, owners must pay an association fee of roughly $170 monthly for community upkeep, including lawn service and road maintenance. Farther from the course, ranch-style homes were built from 1960 through the 1970s, listing roughly between $885,000 and $1 million.
