Casa Loma in southeast Bakersfield
Casa Loma is a neighborhood with a lot of opportunity 4 miles south of downtown Bakersfield. “I work with a lot of investors in the area who are buying and flipping homes here,” says Shanti Brinsfield of Watson Realty, who has over 20 years of experience in the area. “Some have done complete rebuilds, and others just fix up in the interior, but it’s an investment neighborhood at the moment.” As of December 2024, 54% of Casa Loma residents were renters. Casa Loma is also known for being close to the Kern County Fairgrounds, which hosts a variety of Bakersfield’s biggest events throughout the year.

The Kern County Fair and Event Center sits just two blocks west of Casa Loma, providing entertainment throughout the year. “If there’s a big festival happening in Bakersfield, it’s happening at the fairgrounds,” says Contreras. “The Kern County Fair is the biggest event each September, but you have a Dia de los Muertos festival and a Latino Food Festival each May that are really popular.” In December, the 168-acre space hosts Christmas Town, a Winter Wonderland with an ice-skating rink, Santa appearances and holiday-themed food and craft vendors.
