Living near major employers
Edison is a quiet, suburban Bakersfield neighborhood near some of the city's largest employers. "Edison is far from downtown Bakersfield, but that's actually part of why residents love it. There's a strong Hispanic immigrant culture in this close-knit community,” says Susan C. Blanza of Watson Realty, who has over 15 years of experience in Bakersfield. “It’s sort of in the middle of nowhere, but it’s near all the produce and farm companies’ storage and operations facilities.” Some of the local employers near Edison are Bolthouse Farms and Giumarra Vineyards. The produce packing facilities are in the southeastern corner of the neighborhood along the aptly-named Packing House Road. While there are some homes in that area, most are in the northwestern section of the community near Morning Drive.
The neighborhood of Edison is located on the East side of Bakersfield.

Craftsman builds on large lots
Homes in Edison are mostly ranch-style Craftsman builds with a Mediterranean influence featuring stucco facades and tile roofs. There are a handful of California bungalows and split-levels. Prices range from $220,000 for renovation-ready homes with one bathroom to $500,000 for new builds with over 2,000 square feet. “The new construction and larger lot sizes are a big reason people would move here,” says Allison Kitchen of Kitchen Real Estate Services, who has sold over 70 properties in the area. “It feels so much less congested than the northwest or northeast sides of town.” Homes sit along quiet streets with wide, paved sidewalks. Many have private driveways and multi-car attached garages. Properties feature sizeable, fenced-in front and back lawns shaded by tall palm trees. There is a wildfire risk here and people are reminded to clear flammable debris from yards.
