Terra Vista
Suburban Neighborhood in Bakersfield, California
Kern County 93311
Mediterranean-style homes along cul-de-sacs
Terra Vista’s cul-de-sacs are lined with early-2000s Mediterranean-style homes, and the common aesthetic, which includes clay-tiled roofs and earth-toned stucco exteriors, gives the area a sense of uniformity. Yards are large enough for manicured lawns and a two-car paved driveway leading to an attached garage, and many homes have backyard pools to cool off during the hot summer months. Layouts range from 1,700 to 3,400 square feet, and prices typically range from $400,000 to $600,000, depending on size. “Bakersfield is one of the most affordable cities in California,” Villarreal says. “There aren’t many places where people could live in this nice of a community for this price.” Those in the gated section of the neighborhood also pay monthly homeowners association fees between $60 and $70. While most of the neighborhood is single-family homes, there’s also a low-rise apartment complex in the southwest.Splash pad at Greystone Park
At the 8-acre Greystone Park, located just south of the neighborhood, kids can cool off at the splash pad and burn off some energy at the playground or basketball courts. The nearby 8-acre Tradewinds Park offers more green space plus sand volleyball. Kids can join a soccer league at the nearby 170-acre Kaiser Permanente Sports Village, which has several lit fields for soccer and other sports. The Park at River Walk has 32 acres of green space overlooking the Kern River, plus paved paths and two fishing lakes.Astronomy Club at Independence High
The neighborhood is zoned for three elementary schools, and most kids start school at Buena Vista Elementary, which earns a B from Niche. They can then attend one of two nearby middle schools, including the B-plus-rated Earl Warren Junior High. All high schoolers are zoned for the B-plus-rated Independence High, which has over 50 clubs, including the Next Level Entrepreneurs Club, Floral Club and Astronomy Club.Concerts at Dignity Health Amphitheatre
The Park at River Walk is about 4 miles away and hosts Bakersfield’s popular Independence Day fireworks show, where crowds come out to enjoy food trucks and a DJ before the show. Dignity Health Amphitheatre, located near the park, hosts concerts from national acts like Willie Nelson and Riley Green.About 4 miles from the Westside Parkway
The Westside Parkway is around 4 miles away, leading roughly 11 miles to downtown Bakersfield. Interstate 5 is about 10 miles away. While there’s no public transportation, bike lanes on Buena Vista and Old River Roads give a car-free alternative. Sidewalks make the area pedestrian friendly, but most residents choose to drive to amenities. Dignity Health’s Mercy Hospital Southwest is just under 4 miles away, and Meadows Field Airport is a 13-mile trip.High-quality lunch at Sequoia Sandwich Company
The neighborhood is close to a variety of local and chain restaurants and big-box retailers. Locals can start the day at The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, where the coffee drinks are made with their own brand of beans. The locally owned Sequoia Sandwich Company is known for deli sandwiches made with high-quality ingredients, and the popular Lengthwise Brewing Company has craft beer, a large patio and games like cornhole and ping pong. Big-box stores like Walmart, Sam’s Club and The Home Depot are nearby, and The Marketplace, a high-end shopping center, is 4 miles away. Nearby grocery stores include Albertsons and Asia Market.Top-ranked for air pollution
Bakersfield’s location at the bottom of the San Joaquin Valley enables air pollution from Sacramento and the Bay Area to settle over the city. According to the American Lung Association’s 2024 State of the Air report, Bakersfield has the highest annual particle air pollution of any United States city. Residents can monitor daily air quality on the IQAir AirVisual App.
