Shoppers’ paradise has been a long time in the making
It took a lot of work to get Bal Harbour to where it is today: an international destination known for its arts, culture and history of luxury living. This Miami-area community continues to evolve. The concept of Bal Harbour began in 1929, with development soon after, but was halted during WWII. After the war, luxury resorts quickly sprang up along Bal Harbour’s shoreline. The barrier island’s tropical ambiance and exclusive stature drew the era’s top entertainers, while high-end retailers took up space in the new Bal Harbour Shops. Today, Bal Harbour continues to flourish, with its exclusivity lending it an aristocratic, almost European-style atmosphere. “Of course, living in Bal Harbour can also have its drawbacks,” says Joaquin Estrella, a Realtor with Keller Williams. “The cost of living is very high, and there is not a lot of nightlife or entertainment in the area. However, if you're looking for a beautiful, safe and luxurious place to live, Bal Harbour is definitely worth considering.” One of the most notable characteristics is the community’s appreciation of arts and culture. In 2013, the public art program Unscripted Bal Harbour debuted with a mission to enhance Bal Harbour’s stature as a thriving artistic and cultural destination. Instilling that pride came through the Art Access Card, which gives residents and guests free access to South Florida's museums and art institutions, including Rubell Museum and Perez Museum Miami.
From single family homes to high rises in Bal Harbour.
Luxury homes come on the water and in the sky – all with beautiful views
With luxury entertainment and shopping options, come luxury homes. Most new housing in the neighborhood are modern, high-rise buildings with elaborate homes, selling the area as “Mansions in the sky.” There are also new brick-and-mortar houses in the neighborhood. Housing ranges from $400,000 to $25 million, with the median price hovering around $3.3 million. Homes that do go on the market are some of the finest in South Florida, beginning with the single-family residences of Bal Harbour Village. This gated community on the Intercoastal side of the neighborhood features luxury estates, many with water access, that are priced between $20 million and $60 million. Here, you’ll find 20-foot ceilings, impeccably renovated or restored interiors, enough room for multi-vehicle storage, deepwater dockage for a yacht, and other extras, such as a state-of-the-art library or lighted tennis court. Along Collins Road, you’ll find boutique condominiums that sell in the $400,000 range, with mostly one- and two-bedroom units that are within walking distance of shops, restaurants and the beach.

There’s plenty of recreation – most of it outdoors
There’s plenty of recreation – most of it outdoors
The ocean and all that comes with it are what draw many homebuyers to the neighborhood. The stretch of pristine beaches in Bal Harbour is the perfect escape from the cares of daily life. Here, you can splash around in the aquamarine water, build sandcastles with your loved ones, or walk or jog the scenic beach path along the ocean all the way to the Bal Harbour Pier, a jetty that stretches into the ocean and a great place to spot pelicans or yachts motoring to and from the Atlantic through the Haulover Inlet. If boating is your passion, one of the safest, most protected marinas in South Florida is the Bal Harbour Yacht Club, tucked away inside Bal Harbour Village off the inland waterway. Like its community, this marina offers 24-hour security. And more excitement is coming, the community is awaiting the opening of their new waterfront park at 96th Street and Bay Bay Drive. The 1.5 acres will include green space, a performance area, two playgrounds and a splash pad. For an active adventure, residents head to Bal Harbour Park Recreation. Its facilities include basketball courts, a baseball field and a playground, promising fun for the whole family.
