Whitehall

From Tudor Revivals to midcentury ranches
Along the winding, suburban streets of Whitehall are a variety of early and midcentury homes. Some of the oldest residences in the borough are Tudor-inspired houses built in the late 1920s and ‘30s. The late ‘40s, ‘50s and ‘60s brought a wave of simplistic midcentury architecture, such as raised ranch-style homes with two to four bedrooms, a driveway and a garage. Whitehall’s single-family properties typically feature mid-size front and backyards. So, residents have space to spruce up their curb appeal with floral bushes and manicured shrubbery or play catch with the kids. Overall list prices in Whitehall range from $141,000 to $418,000. Typically, houses listed for less than $200,000 will need a bit of TLC, while those prices higher are already renovated.Extracurriculars at Badlwin High
Whitehall is served by the Baldwin-Whitehall School District. Students can begin their academic journey at Whitehall Elementary, rated B-plus on Niche, or J.E. Harrison Education Center, rated B and home to kindergarteners through 6th-graders. Baldwin Middle is the next step. Lastly, students can graduate from Baldwin High, rated B. This high school is home to a variety of extracurriculars that students can enrich their school days with, from clubs in areas like drama, sustainability and debate to sports, such as varsity swimming and tennis.Walking pups around Baldwin Manor Park
Whitehall borough has residential park options for residents and visitors to enjoy time with nature or practice their favorite sport. Snyder Park is home to a ballfield and playground. Prospect Park offers similar amenities, featuring two ballfields, a playground and a basketball court. Baldwin Manor Park is popular for dog owners thanks to its open green space and walkways.South Hills Country Club sprawls along Whitehall’s western hills with a manicured, 18-hole championship course and a heated six-lane swimming pool. The clubhouse offers members even more amenities, including formal and casual dining areas, a ballroom, a lounge and more.
The Crafthouse Stage and Grill
There are a few locally owned neighborhood staples in Whitehall that folks are sure to run into their neighbors at. Several can be found in the Caste Village shopping plaza, toward the heart of the neighborhood. Armstrong’s is popular for their hearty portions of homestyle Italian cuisine. Another taste of Italy is on the other side of the strip. Gianna Via’s Restaurant and Bar is a homey spot with good food and great company. Across the street, folks get their grocery shopping done at Giant Eagle Supermarket. The Crafthouse Stage and Grill is where locals go for a good time. On a week or weekend night, customers enjoy dinner, dessert and a show as performers tear it up on stage. Four to seven nights a week, there’s a live show to attend at this popular hub while enjoying a hoppy, hazy or sour brew.Only 6 miles from Downtown Pittsburgh
Whitehall is about 6 miles south of Downtown Pittsburgh. Residents can head north on Clariton Boulevard, which turns into Saw Mill Run Boulevard, to get to Interstate 376 or the West End Bridge. As for commuting sans a car, Whitehall is a suburb, so it’s fairly car-dependent. That said, there are PRT bus stops along more heavily trafficked roads like Clariton Boulevard and Brownsville Road.
