Arcadia
Neighborhood in Baltimore, Maryland
Baltimore City 21206, 21214
More than just row houses
Prospective buyers will find a range of homes built between the early 1920s and the 1950s. Single-family builds come in a variety of styles, though American Foursquares and bungalows are most common. Prices most often fall between $250,000 and $350,000 for three-bedroom properties, though smaller row houses can sell in the $100,000s. Arcadia’s layout provides ample space between detached homes, with leafy trees and greenery lining the sidewalks. Residents have taken the initiative to safeguard the area, as well. For example, neon green warning signs throughout the neighborhood remind drivers to watch for children playing.A stone’s throw away from large city parks
One of the neighborhood’s biggest draws is next-door access to Lake Montebello and Herring Run Park. While visitors don’t swim or boat on the lake, the paved walkway around its perimeter is a popular spot for bikers, walkers and roller skaters. The lake also has an open grass area and a disc golf course. Herring Run Park provides miles of hiking trails that track all the way to Interstate 895, as well as playgrounds, soccer fields and ball fields. The park hosts plenty of private and community events, from free yoga and tai chi classes to bird walks and 5K fundraisers. On the other side of Herring Run sits Clifton Park, known for its golf course, tennis courts and multiuse fields. Clifton has a Community Food Forest, which works to harvest produce for the city’s food deserts. Walkers can also admire the grounds of the Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, which houses the striking, early 20th-century Furst Chapel mausoleum, among other well-kept monuments.Private and public schools near Arcadia

The College Board partnered with Vanguard Collegiate Middle in 2010 and works to provide equal opportunities for higher education among lower-income students. For example, students can join the JROTC program or graduate with a Career Technical Education degree. Families that opt for private education can choose St. Francis of Assisi School, not yet rated by Niche, for prekindergarten through eighth grade. For high school, Archbishop Curley is an all-boys option with an A-minus grade, and The Catholic High School of Baltimore for girls earns a B-plus. About a half-mile away, students can continue their education at Morgan State University, which places in Niche’s top 20 list for best Historically Black Colleges and Universities in America.Northeast and downtown Baltimore activities
Arcadia residents have entertainment venues close by and can access downtown Baltimore attractions within about 4 miles. At Morgan State University’s Murphy Fine Arts Center, students and professional artists perform and host events. The center features a 2,000-seat concert hall, theaters, recital halls and an outdoor amphitheater. A trip downtown to the Inner Harbor may include a visit to the National Aquarium, Maryland Science Center or a concert at the Baltimore Soundstage. Sports fans can catch a Ravens game at M&T Bank Stadium or cheer on the O’s at Camden Yards.Arcadia transportation options
The 4-mile trip into downtown Baltimore takes about 20 minutes via US Route 1, known locally as Belair Road. Maryland Transit Administration buses also stop along Harford Road, though the nearest metro stations are closer to Johns Hopkins and farther into the city. Flights take off from BWI International Airport, accessible via Interstate 895, which avoids downtown traffic.
Locally sourced restaurants and nearby grocery stores
Along with parks, there are also plenty of shops and restaurants off Belair and Harford roads. “It’s all walkable,” Hagerthey says. “You can walk or bike to all the local spots.” Zeke’s Coffee House serves up freshly roasted brews and pastries in a busy dining room. Residents often hit Maggie’s Farm for dinner and brunch or Koco’s Pub for an 11-ounce crab cake. Woodlea Bakery has been creating custom cakes and other desserts since 1949. Big-box grocery stores are available within 2 miles, as well, including Safeway and the Giant Food in the Parkside Shopping Center off Sinclair Lane.
