Beverly Hills is a suburb centered around convenience
You don’t have to be rich and famous to live in this version of Beverly Hills. Located in Northeast Baltimore, the community of Beverly Hills is the perfect place for “people who want to be near the city and its attractions, but who also want a bigger yard and more trees,” explains Marc Hagerthy, long-time area resident and Realtor with RE/MAX. “The nice thing about this community is you’ve got that suburban feel, easier parking and walkability, but you’re still close to the amenities. I’m fifteen minutes from Costco, and I can still get downtown for an Orioles game.”
20th-century homes come in a wide range of architectural styles
A suburban gem tucked away behind neighboring Herring Run Park, Beverly Hills offers prospective buyers a range of homes built between the early 1920s and the 1950s. Choose from charming single-family homes in a variety of styles including quaint American Foursquares and cozy bungalows, barn-like Dutch Colonials, or even Tudor Revivals complete with exposed timber frames. The average price of a home here is $350,000, with price points varying depending on the age, size, and condition of the property. This neighborhood’s layout provides ample space between homes and features mature leafy trees and plenty of greenery, plus sidewalks for getting you where you need to be.
Getting educated in Baltimore City Public Schools
School-aged children who live in Beverly Hills attend Baltimore City Public Schools, like Montebello Elementary/Middle. Established in 1922 and serving nearly 500 students from pre-kindergarten through eighth grades, this school is a gifted and advanced learning site, offers honors coursework, and supports a positive school and learning environment through the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support program (PBIS). With the dolphin as their mascot, these little learners are swimming toward success.
Outdoor spaces include a lake loop and a streamside park
Another perk to living in Beverly Hills? Easy access to the outdoors. With both Lake Montebello and the Herring Run Park so close by, residents can enjoy these beautiful spots on the daily. You’ll find people of all ages out for a stroll around Lake Montebello’s 1.5-mile loop, as well as rollerbladers and bikers too. For walks with your four-legged friends, Herring Run Park is the optimal spot. Featuring a wonderful tree canopy, soccer and rugby fields, a 5-acre Mother’s Garden, and a stream running down the middle, this park is a nature lover’s haven.
And when you need a break from the small town pace, remember you’re only fifteen minutes from downtown Baltimore and the Inner Harbor. Catch a Ravens game, cheer on the O’s or just enjoy the waterfront promenade.
Zeke’s Coffee, Koco’s Pub and other local favorites are close by
“It’s all walkable,” adds Hagerthy. “You can walk or bike to all the local spots,” like Zeke’s Coffee House, serving up freshly roasted brews in a simple rustic ambiance. Community members love gathering at Zeke’s over a cup of joe, or stopping by for a pastry to go. For breakfast or brunch options, check out Maggies Farm for eggs like you’ve never seen ‘em. Or if you want to treat yourself to an authentic Baltimore treat, head over to Koco’s Pub for one of their famous 11-ounce crab cakes. For all your other needs, a quick walk or drive down Harford Road grants you access to grocery stores, gas stations, pharmacies and more.
Another local favorite is Walther Gardens. More than a gardening store, this half-acre property complete with a large white Queen Anne farmhouse at its center, offers fresh cut flowers, garden herbs, antique furniture, and a wide array of gifts. In the summertime, grab a cold treat from their snowball stand—the oldest in America!—and when it’s winter, Walther Gardens is *the* place to buy your Christmas Tree.
