Steeped in history
East Baltimore’s Biddle Street is a two-block-long neighborhood rich with history dating back to the 1850s. The community really exploded growth-wise after World War I with the addition of brick manufacturers and other industrial plants. Today, the densely populated neighborhood is known for having a mix of industry and residential homes. Additionally, the neighborhood is only two blocks of traditional attached Baltimore row homes. “Baltimore is filled with row homes,” says Peter Klebenow. He is a real estate agent for RE/MAX First Choice and has sold homes in the area for 21 years.
Biddle Street is located just north of Baltimore's Inner Harbor.

Some homes are over 100-years-old
The houses were built from 1890 to 1925, 1914 to 1925 and 1930 to 1940. The result is a mix of Italianate and Renaissance revival style row homes, brown-brick daylight row homes with front porches and colonial revival style row homes featuring red-brick facades and small front lawns. Price points sit at $52,000 and $232,000. A renovated 3-story, 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom row home built in 1940 on Beryl Avenue lists at $185,000. Other renovated homes can cost as much as $350,000, according to Klebenow. The 19,000 square-foot homes are on 35,000 square feet. Klebenow estimates that a renovated row says the area is experiencing a renascence. “It’s a neighborhood that’s transitioning,” he says. “Many older folks are moving out as young professionals move in. It’s a changing neighborhood. People are buying in the area.” He adds that the area attracts people associated with The Johns Hopkins Hospital and the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center. The medical center is a major employer in the area.
