Tradition and convenience in Northwest Baltimore
Fallstaff is a northwestern Baltimore neighborhood that has a particular traditional flavor. “The biggest draw to that corridor specifically is the Orthodox community,” says David Wealcatch, broker and owner at Pickwick Realty who has been in Baltimore for over 30 years. “There’s a strong sense of community, and it’s grown exponentially over the years.” The Orthodox community has left its stamp on the neighborhood, which is home to several synagogues and the largest kosher supermarket in the country. But Fallstaff is also well-regarded for its convenient location between the nightlife of the city and shopping destinations in the county, which has led to an influx of buyers looking to call the area home.

The seams of Charm City
There is a mix of housing styles spread across Fallstaff. Condos and duplexes make up most of the southern half of the neighborhood, ranging in price from around $160,000 to $210,000 depending on the number of bedrooms. Duplexes share mid-sized lawns and often feature fenced-in backyards where neighbors host cookouts together. On the north side, prospective owners will find townhouses with unique midcentury modern accents built in the late 1960s and early 1970s. These tend to sit on smaller lots with just enough space for gardens in the front and back, and range in price from $200,000 to $270,000. American Foursquares and bungalows are scattered here and there throughout, featuring short driveways and mid-sized lawns. Prices begin around $175,000 and climb as high as $330,000 depending on lot size and renovation status. “Lots of people have redone houses to accommodate growing families,” Wealcatch says. “Within that area there’s no space for any new construction. The community is bursting at the seams.”

At Reisterstown Road Plaza, residents can shop for groceries at Giant and pick up any DIY project needs at Home Depot. Just up the road is Seven Mile Market, the largest kosher supermarket in the United States. Residents will find many kosher-certified eateries along Reisterstown Road. Tov Pizza, voted Baltimore’s best kosher pizzeria, has been a community staple since 1984. Sion’s Bakery has been in operation since 2003, providing catering services and fresh baked goods daily. And David Chu’s China Bistro has been a popular stop for Christmas Day Chinese food since it opened in 2001.

Reisterstown Road, the Metro and the MTA
Reisterstown Road is Fallstaff's main thoroughfare, connecting the neighborhood to Interstate 695 and Pikesville to the north. Park Heights Avenue is another major roadway and is home to nine synagogues. Maryland Transit Administration bus lines operate up and down Park Heights, carrying passengers to Mondawmin Mall in roughly 25 minutes. Locals can also catch the Metro at the Reisterstown Plaza station and be at shopping destination Owings Mills in about 10 minutes.
Take your dog on a quiet walk around the scenic Blue Stone Park.
Golf courses and Quarry Lake
The north end of Fallstaff borders The Suburban Club, a private country club where members can swing away on the 18-hole golf course, play a round of pickleball with friends, compete in a weekly poker tournament or simply lounge by the pool. Just 3 miles north in nearby Pikesville, residents can stroll the 1.5-mile paved walkway around Quarry Lake at Blue Stone Park.
Between downtown and Baltimore’s breweries
While residents are just 10 miles north of Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, giving them access to concerts at Power Plant Live! and sports games at Camden Yards and M&T Bank Stadium, there are also options closer to home. “There are bars that do live music in Mount Washington and on Falls Road,” Wealcatch says. “And there’s Druid Hill Park, which has the zoo. You don’t need to go downtown if you’re looking for a night out.” Among the most popular haunts is Union Craft Brewing, a taproom featuring two stages, outdoor seating and rotating food trucks.
