Grove Park offers city access and suburban-style greenery
Grove Park is located at the edge of the Baltimore city limits, perched between the suburbs and downtown. “People in the area are pretty lively and welcoming,” says Rasheed Oridedi, lifetime Baltimore resident and Realtor with Keller Williams Legacy. “There’s a lot of public transportation available as well.” Though a six-lane parkway and the Metro pass near the community, tall poplars and elms provide a buffer from the noise of passing traffic. Sidewalks line the hilly streets of the neighborhood, leading past brick apartment complexes, duplexes and modest ranch-style homes from the 1950s.
Grove Park is less than 10 miles from Downtown Baltimore.

Nearby Gwynn Oak Park
Most of the single-family and semi-detached houses rest on lots with enough room for a backyard barbecue or a game of catch, but there are also city parks within a 2-mile drive. One option is Gwynn Oak Park, a nearly 70-acre space with paved trails and a playground. On weekends, the park is often bursting with activity, like picnics, food festivals and artisan markets — there are sometimes even field day events for adults. Those who enjoy golf can try out the rugged, 18-hole Forest Park Golf Course, which is also nearby. Since 1930, this course has served as a proving ground for professional golfers, including Sadena Parks and Charlie Sifford.

Grove Park's renovated 1900s homes
Many of Grove Park’s residences were built in the early to mid-1900s, and as time passed, some were converted to multifamily rental properties “due to the sheer size of the homes,” Oridedi says. Today, the percentage of owners and renters is nearly equal, and developers have begun converting larger homes back to their original single-family layouts to accommodate families. Buyers might find semi-detached brick townhouses or brick ranch-style houses from the 1950s. There are also some newly renovated 1920s builds, including wood-sided bungalows and American Foursquares. From the car-lined streets of the community, paved pathways lead across green front lawns toward covered front porches. In some cases, private driveways serve as the border between homes. Though houses in need of updates sometimes sell between $100,000 and $200,000, restored homes are often priced from $250,000 to $450,000.

The school receives a C-minus Niche score and provides students with collaborative learning spaces and electives that include technological awareness and culinary arts. The nearest option is C-minus-rated Forest Park High School, which was renovated in 2018 to add a mock trial space, a television studio and an indoor pool.

A short drive to NorthWest Plaza
From the relatively quiet residential streets, the nearest shopping area is NorthWest Plaza, just over 1 mile away by car. There, people can pick up groceries at Harvest Fare Supermarket or sit down for a hearty plate of spiced shrimp and grits at HomeSweetHome Cafe’ & Brunch. About 2 miles away is the Reisterstown Road Plaza, which houses a Home Depot, several chain eateries and Giant Foods. For more selection, some folks take a 4-mile drive or bus ride to the indoor Security Square Mall, where they can shop for shoes, enjoy a bubble tea or watch a movie. On Saturdays from July to October, food trucks, local farmers and makers come to the farmers market held in the mall’s parking lot.

Concord Community Parade
In mid-December, the Northwest Baltimore community gathers at Concord Baptist Church for an annual tree-lighting ceremony. The following day, the Concord Community Parade kicks off with local marching bands and antique car owners making their way down Liberty Heights Avenue. After the parade, the celebration continues with ice skating and toy giveaways.
Getting around Baltimore
There are several travel options for navigating around Baltimore. Maryland Transit Administration’s CityLink buses stop along Liberty Heights and Rogers avenues, and the MTA’s Rogers Ave Metro station is about a half mile away from the northern half of the neighborhood. Despite these options, Oridedi says that car travel is often the most convenient, with Interstate 695 just 2 miles west and Interstate 83 less than 4 miles east.
Some considerations for homebuyers
Along Kennison Avenue, there is a narrow section of homes that rest at a lower elevation. Because the nearby Powder Mill Branch is prone to flooding after heavy rains, some of these houses may lie within a small flood zone. Lenders may require the purchase of flood insurance.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

This isn't a place you want to live if you're looking for more opportunities to start a new career. It's just a regular area with food places and market places and a gas station here or there. So if you want a job doing something basic like that, I guess you'd come here. Basically, it's kind of a last resort place. You wouldn't say, "Ooo!! I want to move to Gwynn Oak so I can get ____ job!" No. You'd mainly move here if you want to find an inexpensive house, apartment, or townhouse.
