Guilford shines with large homes, spacious yards and nearby city amenities
Pristine landscaping meets illustrious architecture in historic Guilford. A suburb of north Baltimore, Guilford was designed by the Roland Park Company in the 1890s and developed by some of the most respected architects of the time. Featuring midcentury condominiums and Tudor-style brick townhouses, to Colonial Revivals and French-country inspired estate homes, Guilford is the perfect neighborhood for buyers seeking a detached home with a yard but who don’t want to give up the social amenities offered by city living. Single-family homes offer privacy and large yards but are still close enough to restaurants, museums and parks. A long-standing HOA will keep owners engaged with events and get-togethers throughout the year.
Stunning mansions from the early 1900s grace St. Paul Street, which winds from the northwest toward the southeast corner of Guilford. Anchoring the south edge is Guildford Gateway Park. According to COMPASS Realtor Charlotte Eyring, a Baltimore real estate agent for over ten years, “Guilford is beautiful, with large homes, unbeatable architecture and large yards. Each home is unique and different. But what brings many buyers here – often people who come from the downtown area – is the opportunity to get more space while living close to City amenities. They can walk to parks, enjoy nearby restaurants and bike to the Baltimore Museum of Art.”
Large sunrooms are a popular addition to many homes in the Guilford neighborhood.

Guilford Gateway Park shares accolades with Sherwood Park
Beautifully landscaped Guilford Gateway Park was initially planned for English-style townhouses in the early 1900s. When that plan failed to launch, the Guilford Association preserved the land in the 1940s and developed the park. Landscape architect H. Clay Primrose started by planting a large, lone pine tree in the park's center so that neighbors could enjoy “a real Christmas celebration around the tree.” It still stands proudly and welcomes residents to annual holiday celebrations. Realtor Eyring adds, “Guilford offers a tight-knit community of people who take great care of their homes and the two neighborhood parks.”

The Charm City Circulator offers free bus rides in downtown
“One of the best parts of living in the City of Baltimore,” adds Realtor Eyring, “is the free public transportation across downtown.” The cleverly named Charm City Circulator provides clean-energy, free buses in and around downtown Baltimore. Residents can easily drive to the Inner Harbor, about 6 miles away, taking St. Paul Street to Interstate 83.
Nearby Hampden is the spot for dining and shopping
“Hampden is where Guilford residents go to enjoy local restaurants, shops and bars,” continues Realtor Eyring, “Johnny’s and Petit Louis’ Bistro are pretty popular and have outdoor seating.” Brightside Boutique offers on-trend women’s clothing and quirky books and gifts. MOM’s Organic Market is one of the closest fresh food markets popular with folks in Guilford.

The taxes are high, which reflects in the ridiculous renting prices in the area, but I pay to be near to the University, which is safe, and the rich neighborhoods surrounding Charles Village always seem to be plowed in the winter.

There have been a few crimes as of late, but security is well-maintained in the area because of its proximity to a large institution. As this appeals to a large proportion of undergraduate students attending local universities, investment in safety measures is at the forefront of discussions about the neighborhood.
