With scenic views of Druid Hill Park visible from the neighborhood’s edge, Liberty Square offers a sense of serenity close to Baltimore’s biggest attractions and liveliest neighborhoods.

Located 2 miles from Hampden, the neighborhood consists mainly of apartments, though row houses, duplexes, and single-family homes can also be found in the community. Most homes include at least three bedrooms and over 2,000 square feet. “In Liberty Square, the houses are bigger, where Woodbrook is still your typical row homes,” explains Chantal Chi, an agent with Realty One Group Excellence. Home styles include colonial, Federal, and Victorian, with some houses featuring bay windows and back decks. Prices range from $185,000 to $289,000.

For school, students attend Gwynns Falls Elementary before transitioning to a middle school of their choice. One of the closest options is Dr. Nathan A. Pitts-Ashburton Elementary/Middle, which includes after-school activities like tennis team and spirit squad. For high school, one option is ConneXions, an arts school focused on teaching students to utilize their creativity and think critically.

In the evening, browse the gardens, wander through the zoo or hike across 745 acres of park space at Druid Hill. Only steps away from your front door, the park provides countless recreational activities year-round. Initially built in 1860, Druid Hill remains a staple in the community and continues to host popular local events. “One of the main attractions is AFRAM,” Chi explains. One of the largest festivals celebrating African Americans in the eastern United States, the AFRAM weekend festival brings in well-known musical artists, entertainers, and local food vendors.

Need to stock up on essentials? Flanked by Mondawmin Mall, the neighborhood makes shopping for clothes and groceries easy. Walk to national retailers like Foot Locker and Ross or pick up groceries at Shoppers in a matter of minutes. The mall also hosts block parties and other free events sponsored by local organizations, so keep an eye on their calendar.

If you get hungry, find fast food chains like Dunkin, Burger King and Popeyes throughout the mall. When you’d rather dine in, catch the bus on Liberty Heights Ave and head to Hampden to access top-rated restaurants like Arthouse, Golden West Café, and Souvlaki Greek Cuisine. Find several breweries, antique shops, and salons in the area as well.

For entertainment closer to home, attend Coppin State University’s annual concert series hosted less than a mile away each summer. Additionally, because the neighborhood houses some of the Baltimore City Community College Campus, it’s easy to take advantage of the courses and networking opportunities provided by the institution. Frequently boasting free tuition semesters, the college seeks to provide a low-cost education to the citizens of Baltimore.

When it’s time for work, venture a few blocks to the metro station and reach downtown Baltimore in minutes. If you work outside the city, drive less than 10 miles to Towson or less than 20 miles to Columbia. With Interstate 83 and Route 1 less than 2 miles away, the neighborhood provides easy access to the city and surrounding counties.

For a picturesque place close to Baltimore’s most happening spaces, come to Liberty Square.
