Latrobe Park is Locust Point’s main green space, offering baseball and soccer fields, a dog park and courts for basketball, tennis and beach volleyball. Perched on the eastern shore of Locust Point is the Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine, a military base that successfully repelled a British naval fleet during the War of 1812, saving the city of Baltimore from invasion. The victory at Fort McHenry inspired Francis Scott Key to write the poem that would become America’s national anthem, The Star-Spangled Banner. Today, guests can tour the fort’s grounds, learn about the history of the battle and take a nature hike around the mile-long Seawall Trail loop surrounding the “Baltimore Bastille.”
