Classic Baltimore row houses
Prospective homeowners will be greeted by the familiar sight of Baltimore’s classic row houses, which line the streets of McElderry Park. “It’s mostly two-story row houses, no single-family units,” Arrazola says. These tend to feature short front stoops and small backyard driveways that open onto alleyways where one is likely to bump into a neighbor while taking out the trash. Prices begin around $100,000 for homes requiring updating, rising to around $275,000 for fully renovated units. “Very few properties actually make it to market right now,” Arrazola continues. “When they do, they sell very fast. It’s a high-demand area.”Proximity to Patterson Park
This neighborhood sits just a half-mile north of Baltimore’s oldest green space, Patterson Park. “Lots of people walk down there,” says Rachel Dooley, a Realtor with Cummings and Co. who has sold real estate in the area for the past 4 years. “It’s nice because you can be close to the park without the price jump of living in the Patterson Park neighborhood.” Here, locals gather on the rolling green hills for picnics beneath shady trees or compete against visiting teams on one of the 18 available athletic fields. Patterson Park also features a public swimming pool and the Mimi DiPietro Family Skating Center, where children splash or skate to their heart’s content watched over by the towering historic pagoda.Schooling in Charm City

From here it is a short walk over to Camden Yards, where scores of orange-clad Orioles fans cheer their team on from the historic venue.

Hopkins is the end of the Baltimore Metro subway line, so locals can catch the train here out to shopping destination Owings Mills, a 19-mile trip, in just under 30 minutes. Residents can make the 15-mile drive to Baltimore Washington International Airport, or they can drive to Penn Station, take the MARC train and be at the airport in roughly 15 minutes. The appeal of the Northeast Market
Residents can shop for groceries at Aldi on Fayette Street or can head to the south side of Patterson Park to the Safeway on Boston Street. McElderry Park is also a short half-mile walk from the Northeast Market. Established in 1885, this public marketplace hosts more than 30 local businesses, including The Heavenly Hotdog Grill, where locals can indulge in one of Baltimore’s favorite pit beef sandwiches. For a culinary adventure in the open air, neighbors head 1.5 miles south to Fells Point, a shopping and nightlife destination where they can enjoy a rich bowl of authentic ramen at Kippo or jam to live music at Cat’s Eye Pub.Support for the McElderry Park community
McElderry Park’s motto is “Neighbors Helping Neighbors”, and residents are living up to this ideal by organizing community clean-ups to minimize littering, establishing community gardens and a housing coalition and working in concert with the Historic East Baltimore Community Action Coalition to support locals struggling with addiction and difficult home situations. HEBCAC provides career and housing services for community youth as well as recovery programs for those suffering from addiction.
