A suburban community along York Road
The neighborhood of Mid-Govans got its start as a rest stop off the York Turnpike for Pennsylvania farmers making the long commute to downtown Baltimore. Today, the thoroughfare that is now known as York Road offers residents a variety of shops, businesses, and restaurants, and more than 1,600 residents call the area home. “You can find some gems here,” says Christopher Ken Macon, a Baltimore-based associate broker for Samson Properties. “That’s because it’s not as far as Towson, where the high spenders are going to go, but it’s not too close to downtown, which a lot of people think is too busy. It gives you a more suburban feel.” Macon says the location is also ideal. “It’s very central to many different things, like Towson or downtown Baltimore, and it’s not far from Morgan State University, so I would send buyers who are faculty, staff, or even families with students that way.”
