Radnor-Winston
Suburban Neighborhood in Baltimore, Maryland
Baltimore City 21210, 21212
Homes on the National Register of Historic Places
According to Perkins, the neighborhood has a mix of housing types. “The predominant style is front porch cottages built in the 1930s, but there are a handful of older, larger homes, some dating to the 1800s, and some newer brick semi-detached homes built in the 1940s and 1950s. Some homes are on the National Register of Historic Places, which helps the homeowners qualify for some tax credits.” Homes in Radnor-Winston range from around $200,000 for a move-in-ready semi-detached home to about $475,000 for a larger single-family home. There are also townhouse and condo options in the Villages of Homeland subdivision, just north of Radnor-Winston proper, which range from about $140,000 to $370,000.Natural beauty all around
There’s a lot of nature around the neighborhood, including Stony Run Park. “It’s a treasure in the city that you can walk to,” says Perkins. One of this 316-acre park’s biggest offerings is its 3-mile-long walking trail that follows the curves of the Stony Run stream. Nearby Sherwood Gardens is another beautiful spot to visit. Spanning 6 acres, this privately owned park is free and open to the public year-round. Featuring dogwoods, flowering cherries, wisteria, magnolias, and azaleas, the garden is most renowned for its annual tulip display. Residents should be sure to visit at least once in early April or May to catch the 50,000 tulips in bloom.A top high school in close range
The neighborhood is served by Baltimore City Public Schools, which allows students to choose their own middle and high schools. Radnor-Winston is zoned for Roland Park Elementary Middle School, graded B-plus by Niche. Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, graded A, is one nearby high school students can choose to attend. Recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School, Baltimore Polytechnic Institute focuses on STEM studies, so the curriculum includes more STEM classes than the state requires.Access to both neighborhood and university events
Radnor-Winston residents share their backyard with two private universities, Loyola University Maryland and Notre Dame of Maryland University. The schools offer many free cultural and educational events throughout the year. Residents also enjoy their active community association and the fellowship it provides. Hosting activities like an annual pancake breakfast, a Halloween parade, and an Easter Egg Hunt, it’s an easy way to meet the neighbors and have fun close to home.Navigating the Radnor-Winston area
Some destinations are walkable from the neighborhood, and city buses make stops up and down Charles Street and York Road, but most residents get around by car or even bike; from its northern Baltimore City location, residents are about 4 miles from downtown.Shopping and dining along York Road
Residents can head to York Road for shopping and dining options close to home. “The new favorite that just opened is the Hex Superette, which is a place to eat and shop,” says Perkins. “And thanks to Loyola University, there is a farmers market on the edge of the neighborhood for four months of the year, which you can walk to.” Belvidere Square is another popular spot, according to Perkins. This mixed-use space features more than a dozen dining outposts where residents can get everything from fresh-baked bread to Korean barbecue to lobster rolls.
