A historic area rich in African American culture
Established in 1790, Sharp Leadenhall is a historic district located in South Baltimore rich in African American culture. The area was home to the Baltimore Abolitionist Society, founded in 1789, and the African Academy of Baltimore, the first school in the nation dedicated to educating African American children. “The buyers that aim to live here like the historic nature of the neighborhood. This area has some of the oldest houses in South Baltimore,” says Ben Garner, Realtor and owner of Garner and Co., who has been selling homes in the area for eight years. He says the location is also incredibly convenient. “You’re just a couple of blocks from the shops, restaurants, and nightlife in Federal Hill. You also have proximity to the Inner Harbor, parks, and a private swim club. Generally, your money tends to go a little further in this area, so it’s nice you get all these amenities.”
