Bardonia has access to transportation and a highly rated schools
Bardonia is a hamlet of Clarkstown, New York, and is rich in parks and greenery. Residents enjoy this area, 33 miles from New York City, for its access to transportation and its school district. “Bardonia is a great little hamlet. People love that it has a small-town feel but is close to everything,” says Madeline Wiebicke, a Bardonia local and a Realtor with Keller Williams. Wiebicke has been working in the industry for 21 years. “It has an amazing school district and elementary school. My children went there, and I’ve lived in Bardonia for over 50 years. It’s the perfect little spot and easy to get everywhere.”
Single-family homes, townhouses and condos near nature
Homes on large, manicured lots sit along winding roadways. Most houses have space for a swimming pool in their backyard and are near DeForest Lake or a park. Major roadways border the area, but residences are set back from the busy street and separated by a dense layer of tree cover. Colonial Revival, split-level and ranch-style houses are common. Townhouses and condos range from $260,000 to $490,000. Single-family homes range from $560,000 to $800,000. Larger homes range from $810,000 to $1 million.
Students attend highly rated Clarkstown Central schools
The Clarkstown Central School District, which gets an A from Niche, serves the area. Children living near DeForest Lake may attend Strawtown Elementary, and those near the Palisades Parkway may attend Bardonia Elementary; both schools receive an A-minus. Felix Festa Middle gets an A-minus and Clarkstown High School South earns an A. Clarkstown High has a television and communications media department, allowing students to create segments for the school’s weekly news magazine.
Commuting to NYC for work by car and train
“A lot of people ... commute to New York City for work,” says Wirbicke. “Many people work remotely now, and as far as dining and shopping, it’s all around us. There’s New City, Nyack, Bergen County in New Jersey, where there are many great restaurants and shopping.” The Palisades Interstate Parkway leads to New York City. Bergen County, New Jersey, 19 miles away, may be reached using the Garden State Parkway. Both New City, 3 miles away, and Nyack, 4 miles away, may be reached using state routes. From the Nanuet train station, 2 miles away, passengers can travel on New Jersey Transit's Pascack Valley line, reaching Secaucus Junction in New Jersey in just over an hour. From there, trains travel to New York's Penn Station about every 15 minutes. The Montefiore Nyack Hospital is 4 miles away, and the Westchester County Airport is 21 miles away. The Clarkstown Reformed Church is along Strawtown Road.
Bardonia residents close to three public swimming pools
“It’s a huge selling point that we have three separate park swimming pools through Clarkstown,” says Wiebicke. Germonds Park, within Bardonia, has sports fields for baseball and softball and a hard-top basketball court. There’s also a playground and two swimming pools with a waterslide open from June to September. Nearby, Germonds Park Miniature Golf is open May through September. The West Nyack Swim & Tennis Club is a private facility where members have access to tennis courts, two pools, a playground and other sports areas and amenities. DeForest Lake, a reservoir, borders the area and allows fishing. Residents may head to the Hudson River, 5 miles from Bardonia, for more activities. Harriman State Park, the second largest park in the New York State Park System, is 27 miles away and covers over 47,000 acres. The park has campgrounds, trails, lakes for anglers and boat launches. On some of the lakes, such as Lake Tiorati and Lake Welch, there is a beach area where swimming is permitted.
