Broadmoor/Sherwood has convenience, charm and generational ties
The cozy Broadmoor/Sherwood neighborhood welcomes residents with its mix of architectural styles in Baton Rouge, along with easy access to everyday essentials, major roadways and recreation opportunities. Centrally located in Louisiana’s capital city, the community is popular with families, retirees and young professionals. In this residential area, homes are known for being handed down through the generations. It also has a reputation for large lots, allowing for ample front and back yards. Founded in 1950, the subdivision has grown from a handful of dwellings to over 2,000 households peppered with schools, parks and downhome eateries.
Midcentury homes and shady yards define Broadmoor/Sherwood living
Living in Broadmoor/Sherwood provides a friendly, hospitable environment within a diverse area. Mature trees and landscaping accent homes and offer relief from the heat in the summer. Architecturally, the homes reflect the mod 1950s and swinging 1960s through a mixture of midcentury modern designs and sprawling ranch-style residences. Newer construction is typically Acadian-style buildings, cottages or condominiums. Prices range from $155,000 for a three-bedroom condo to $400,000 for a four-bedroom, four-bath modern farmhouse.
Students can choose from public, private and magnet programs
Students have their pick of private or public educational facilities. Broadmoor Elementary prides itself on its science, math, music and art courses and believes learning shouldn’t stop in the summer. Its summer camps and reading program help students with math, literacy, and comprehension. Southeast Middle Magnet is a digital arts and technology-focused STEAM academy. Students can earn up to six high school credits in this nationally certified magnet school. Broadmoor Senior High School has been teaching young adults for over 60 years. The facility offers dual enrollment with Baton Rouge Community College, Louisiana State University and Southern University.
Parks, arcades and bowling alleys offer fun for all ages
Cedarcrest Park occupies five acres near Interstate 12 and has a recreation center, tennis courts and a playground. Parkview Park offers baseball fields and a basketball court along with picnic spaces and a walking loop. Sharp Road Park spreads over 11 acres. Its rec center teaches classes on everything from dance to self-defense to home renovation. Celebration Station is a long-standing neighborhood hangout complete with mini golf, a kid’s roller coaster and weekly special deals. Open seven days a week, the entertainment center can cater to groups of all sizes for birthdays, special events and holiday happenings with six event spaces. The large arcade has 53 games including some of the newest on the market. Attractions at the station include go-karts, batting cages and playland rides for younger visitors. All Star Lanes is another popular Broadmoor recreation destination. With 64 lanes, the bowling alley is a lively spot to roll a few games for fun or league play. There’s always a bumper option for children to keep their throws out of the gutter as well as special options for adults. Lightning Strikes is an evening version of blacklight bowling complete with vibrant colors, music and a club-like atmosphere. The alley also has a pro shop for all your bowling needs along with a café serving burgers, fries, salads and desserts.
Longtime favorites serve boudin, po’boys and fresh doughnuts
The neighborhood has beloved dining spots like Ronnie’s Boudin and Cracklins. This specialty store serves hot meals with a downhome feel while selling five types of uncooked boudin. Mary Lee Donuts has been a neighborhood favorite for over 40 years, and many locals swear there’s no better place for the pastries in the city. Po-Boy Express opened its drive-thru service in 1992 and has since expanded its menu to include 16 po’boy varieties and six seafood plates across five locations.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
