Shenandoah
A community with many subdivisions
While traveling through Shenandoah, locals see homes ranging from modern constructions to those dating back over 50 years. Along the streets are distinguished Cape Cods and colonial-inspired houses with wideset porches. There are also many simple ranch homes throughout the community. Shenandoah Estates subdivision contains some of the most established properties in the community. Contemporary dwellings show new traditional forms that blend different architectural styles. These properties are found inside the Carriagewood Estates, Audubon Square and Shadows Lake subdivisions. Those looking for attached housing options can score a unit inside the High Cross Townhomes development.Townhouses generally list between $125,00 and $250,000. Detached houses can enter the market as low as $200,000; however, some well-maintained estates and residences over 3,000 square feet can cost over $1 million. Sections of the parish are prone to flooding, and the local government has recently updated the East Baton Rouge Flood Risk Reduction Project to mitigate the effects of natural disasters.
Some of the best private schools in the area
The community contains high-ranking faith-based schools, including Parkview Baptist School and St. Michael the Archangel High School. Episcopal School of Baton Rouge is considered among the top faith-based schools in that state, with an A-plus from Niche. The public Shenandoah Elementary has a B-plus grade from Niche; the school was nominated in Baton Rouge Parents magazine's "2023 Family Favorites." Students may also attend Woodlawn Elementary, which has a B grade. Woodlawn Middle School earns a B-minus from Niche, and Southeast Middle has a C grade. Woodlawn High receives a C-plus and promises a magnet program offering dual enrollment and Advanced Placement courses.Nature-lovers have many options
Outdoor adventures are just a few miles away in every direction. Forest Community Park is a larger green space that supports a variety of amenities, such as an onsite dog park, trail system and lighted ball courts. Next to the fishing pond is the tennis center, available for use for a fee. There are a number of additional neighborhood spaces, like Antioch Boulevard Park. Here, locals play pickleball on the courts or indoor basketball in the onsite center. Residents explore the nearby waterways at Bayou Manchac Park. Hikers often explore the trails at Kendalwood Conservation Area.Baton Rouge cuisine in Shenandoah
Shoppers have two Walmart Neighborhood Market locations as well as a Costco Wholesale next to the cloverleaf interchange for Interstate 12. But inside the community is a mix of dining options celebrating Baton Rouge's unique flavors. Chimes East is a popular choice for gumbo and blackened alligator. Portobello's Grill serves a blend of Italian-style favorites and comforting regional-inspired dishes. The menu at Jasmines On the Bayou ranges from burgers to Cajun seafood. Hungry patrons at George's Restaurant can listen to live music on the patio.

Interstate 12 stretches across the northern side of Shenandoah; Interstate 10 rests to the south, inviting locals to downtown Baton Rouge, about 15 miles away. Commuters traveling close to LSU can expect heavy traffic after work. The parish offers fixed bus routes along the Capital Area Transit System (CATS), but Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport is about 20 miles away.A new Mardi Gras parade
